SCOOP ME UP returns to Maplewood for the seventh story in this series. This time, we have a non-binary school teacher, who longs to own his own ice-cream shop, and a business consultant in town to spend time with his daughter, who ends up not being as straight as he thought he was.

As with all the books I have read in this series, it is low angst, with a high dose of sweetness, charm to spare, and a whole town to rally round when your backs are against the wall. There were parts of this that confused me, as I thought decisions had already been made and conversations had. Maybe that was me reading more into parts than I should have done, but it did jolt me out of my zone whenever I hit them.

Anyway, this was a sweet story with some great ice-cream names and a wonderful supporting cast. If you like this series, then I have no doubt you will like this instalment.

Caillou Plays Hockey

Another contribution from this bright, familiar series. this book can quickly become a favourite and whilst this one is particular to the holiday season, Caillou has several different adventures for your child to pick up.
With this instalment we find Caillou getting all kitted up for his first training sessions in Ice-hockey, but as is often the case, he wants to run before he can walk and only with his fathers help can he see that practice is needed to progress. A lovely moral, a great message for our youngest and bright colourful presentation as well, what's not to love.

Riley Mack was labeled a troublemaker after an ill-advised attempt to steal an ice cream cake. Now he tries to help his friends out of problems with school bullies. But when one friend has his dog stolen, Riley and the gang may be in over their heads. There's lots going on here that will keep kids engaged. Personally, I thought the characters were a little weak, but I don't think kids will notice or care.

Comedy Theater owner Elliot Freed is thrilled to meet his film idols Lillis & Townes when he hosts a special screening of their classic CRACKED ICE. But when he learns that Townes may have killed his wife 50 years before, Elliot just has to investigate. I was disappointed with the first in this series, but I really enjoyed this one. The characters were more likable, the plot much stronger, and the laughs were present in droves.
