Typical high concept (and colourful) Pixar film, that clearly takes as its inspiration the immigration experience, and set in a city where elements (fire, earth, water, air) are all anthropomorphic and do not always mix well.

Not that I have any personal experience of that (honestly).

As such, I'm sure it resonates more with those who have personal experience of immigration than those who don't, which is not to say that there is nothing to enjoy for the latter group.

May not be Pixar's best, true, but still enjoyable enough.

Office Space crossed with Battle Royale
So it's obvious where this film has drawn it's inspiration from, and I think it may have gone a little too far with the Battle Royale similarities.

Still, it was nowhere near as bad as I expected. Yes it was mostly predictable, but it was brilliantly bloody and gory and still managed to raise a few laughs. The ending wasn't great, but it was still fairly enjoyable and it was refreshing to see a film not even attempting to push the 2 hour barrier and drag on for far too long like most tend to do now.

The Elemental Journal was really interesting. The journals were pretty advanced, and even though the instructions were clear they would have required a lot of materials. I would use this book for inspiration more than step by step instructions. This book would be great for any crafter who saves everything and sees potential in random pieces of "trash" like tree bark, scraps of fabric, wire, old plastic game pieces, door knobs, etc.

Mind you I loved it: it was wild and cool and exciting: it's just slightly more advanced and a little intimidating. Recommended for experienced crafters.
