I was a huge fan of the original and Jean-claude Van Damme, the original is an classic martial arts film. The reboot will never be as good as the original but I can say its not bad. Its awesome to see that Van Damme was able to return as the mentor and pass the torch on, his performance was the best out of the whole cast. Bautista playing the villain Tong Po was fierced and brilliant. The fight scenes were crafted exceptional and some were intense and exciting. The story in my opinion was a tad bit jumpy and drug out compared to the original but I did like how they twisted it and tried to make it more original. This movie might not be the best ever reboot, low budget but it was entertaining and Van Damme was brilliant. Hopefully the sequel will be even better.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

When I first read the description of Mask of Shadows I knew I had to read it. It sounded absolutely fascinating and something just a little bit different than the normal Fantasy Young Adult novels on the market. The first thing that stood out to me was the gender fluid nature of the main character. It was well done. I loved the openness of this book and the fact that it wasn't highlighted too much. I loved how different Sal was and how the gender fluidity was there but more realistic in a sense.

The plot was intense and it kept my attention. I loved how it was Hunger Games meets Game of Thrones meets Selection. It was interesting to read and it had some twists and turns that had me on my toes.

Ultimately, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy and adventure.

This book was beautifully written. Anne Rice really does have a way of describing scenes and characters. I think that this was beautiful.

I enjoyed the different take on Werewolves and I loved the descriptions. I do wish that the book had more of a climatic story line. I felt as if this novel was not an emotional novel. I felt no pull towards the characters. I loved the struggle that the characters had with God and I enjoyed being able to relate to the characters. I loved the characters but I was not in love with them.

All in all I enjoyed this book. I will say that it was anti-climatic and left me wanting a more intense read.

Anne Rice is a spectacular writer who has a great imagination and an ability to make you feel like you are watching a movie while reading.

I would recommend this book to family and friends.

Great special effects!
This review is going to be very simple. Because this is a simple movie.

Sometimes, you just want to see a "I don't have to think about anything, and I can still be entertained" movie. This is one of them. I mean, it's based on a video game with the same idea. Just smash! Three giant monsters, smashing a city. Some silly T.M.N.T. backstory about a mutagen changing an albino gorilla to a white King Kong. And then "Let them fight!" That's it! It's held together by Dwayne Johnson & the others in the film. To be honest, I don't even remember who's in the movie with him. But it doesn't matter. The film is fun. Maybe a little intense for little kids. But some days, you just want to sit back & watch some great special effects & big things crushing little things. When that happens, here's a film for you.

I am so disappointed with this ending. I recently came across this series and absolutely devoured the beginning trilogy. I was in love. Bought the rest of the books in the series and was slowly poisoned. The other books did not produce the same feelings I got with the first three. The Shalador novellas finally gave me some feels and felt well thought out. But this ending for WITCH!?! I think not. Why build such an intense, strong and facetted character to give her such a weak ending. I really don't feel it jibed with this character that was the reason in this world. And poor Surreal, she was such a great character as well, she deserved a better ending. I feel like this was an ending that would arise if an author had a knife against their throat being threatened to get an ending wrapped up in an afternoon lol. Okay rant over....

Atmospheric mystery
Arrowood is a grand old house that was used as part of the underground railway network in Iowa. It is the family home for generations of Arrowoods, the home that Arden grew up in and the home from which her twin sister disappeared from twenty years ago.

When Arden inherits Arrowood and returns to the now deteriorating town of her childhood; Keokuk, she is met with some faces from her past. Arden opens old wounds by digging around the unsolved disappearance of her sister, and has to ask herself some difficult questions about what really happened all those years ago at Arrowood.

This book had a great build up in it. The atmosphere created around the house and town was eerie and haunting. There was some delightfully suspenseful moments and overall the feel of this book was intense. The ending went a bit off the rails for me and I'd already guessed roughly the deal but still would strongly recommend for the ride.

2018 | Drama
Anna Seghers' novel of life in France following the German invasion of 1940 updates to the present day with disturbing ease. There is much talk of 'occupation' and 'cleansing' but the director wisely keeps things unspecified as Franz Robowski's character steals a dead man's identity in an attempt to escape Europe, only to find emotional entanglements pose almost as great a problem as international borders.

Understated, with various echoes of other films - you can see why it's being compared to Casablanca, but this is a much heavier and more intense movie. Still quite engrossing to watch, mainly because of the performances. There are also shades of Kafka - you are only allowed to stay in one hotel if you can prove you don't want to stay there - and also Antonioni's The Passenger, although the existentialism of the film's theme is kept muted. Concentrates on telling a story rather than putting over a message, and as a result is effective and sometimes moving.

A very good thriller
I’ve read and enjoyed quite a few of John Marrs books and couldn’t resist reading this when I spotted it on Kindle Unlimited, and I’m glad I did as it’s a rather enjoyable thriller.

As with all of John Marrs books, it’s definitely well written and as you get into this it’s very difficult to put down. The characters are well developed and interesting, even though neither of them are particularly likeable. Simon especially is rather a conflicted character and I developed a rather intense dislike of him by the end of the book, and I do love when a story can make you really feel something for the characters. There is a slightly unpredictable twist in this, but I couldn’t say it’s a massive surprise and it doesn’t really matter as this book is all about the journey to find out what happened to the characters over the 28 years. The ending is just a good resolution to a rather intriguing story.

In terms of covers <i>Their Fractured Light</i> is my least favorite out of all three books in the trilogy. (These Broken Stars is my favorite.)

In terms of everything else however….

I loved every second I had with the final book in the <i>Starbound</i> trilogy - it's so much more intense, action-packed, and fast paced than the other two books as all six characters (Tarver and Lilac from <i><a href="http://www.bookwyrmingthoughts.com/arc-review-these-broken-stars-by-amie-kaufman"; target="_blank" rel="noopener">These Broken Stars</a></i>, Jubilee and Flynn from <a href="http://www.bookwyrmingthoughts.com/arc-review-this-shattered-world-by-amie-kaufman-and-meagan-spooner"; target="_blank" rel="noopener">This Shattered World</a>, and now Gideon and Sofia) come together to bring down La Roux Industries.

What is the ending all about???
Mom and dad.......... brilliant film intense throughout!

This film was a good idea and had a lot of potential, the story line that every mom and dad catches a virus turning them on there own children and wanting to kill them all worked perfectly in this action horror. However the ending was highly disappointing and I wasn't exactly expecting it to finish when it did it's almost Asif there should have been another half hour/hour to show us all what happened if it went or not. In the description of the film it says the virus only lastest 24hours but like most films it didn't, but should have shown us what happened after instead just leaves us with a scene where the parents are still not well.

On the whole nice actor choice good story line apart from the bleak end scene it's still worth the watch!
