my book brain has questions!
Independent reviewer for GRR, I was gifted my copy of this book.

Dawson finds himself, and the oil rig he is working on, left high and dry and on an island in the middle of the North Sea. Ul is king of the island. He knows something changed. The water tastes different and just what is that thing? Only one thing for it, some first contact. But then Ul's markings glow when he meets Dawson. Ul does not have time, nor the heart for a mate.

I liked this, I liked it a lot but I am left with questions! So many questions my book brain is screaming at me!

It was not really explained what Ul and his people are. I mean, they are called krakke, so some sort of kraken type being is assumed but not really fully explained.

How did Dawson get poisoned?? We know it was done, and when. But that's it.

It's not overly steamy, it's more about Ul and Dawson getting to know each other. Loved how Ul's people learn languages, even if Dawson talked the hind legs off a donkey while Ul learned how to speak English!

Basically, I think, there was some fleshing out needed BUT I really did enjoy this book and I want to read more of what happens during the Collapse, as the humans call it. All sorts of mythical beings are appearing in the human world and I want to read them!

4 very good, if slightly questioning, stars

This my Rifle This is My gun
This movie is one of the best look into Marine training at Paris Island. The movie is a nice look into the Vietnam war showcasing a great actor in Modine. His character is seen two ways (a killer and protector) and depending on your point of view you get to decide which one he is. The movie is suspenseful and filled with some good history. It also is a little depressing but, what war movie isn't. The best part in my opinion is that R. Lee Ermey was really a Master Sgt in the Marines so he didn't really need training to act the way he did. He frightened Modine as he said in several interviews

Why Rum Gone
Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) plays our beloved pirate to love and hate in this adaption of a Disney ride. The movie from the word go is filled with action, comedy and suspense as we follow our captain take possession of a powerful boat with the help of Orlando bloom and try to rescue our damsel in distress Nightly and recover the last gold coin of a lost treasure to try and break and long time curse. This movie storyline took time and patience to make sure everything flowed right and it does. To me there is not a moment of down time and my favorite line when marooned on an island is "Why Rum Gone" Enjoy

An Interesting Lead in to the Next Novel
Contains spoilers, click to show
I read this one last after I'd finished the whole series and I feel that was the best way to do it. You really get a feel for the struggle that Thimble and Stone had. *SpoilerAlert* Spoiler for book three! I would have liked to have read their story all the way to the docks where they go to the island as it would have tied in nicely with the third book but I understand that would have probably been a book in itself instead of a short story but yeah, overall a great piece of fiction. I'm really glad the author saved Thimble and Stone they were great characters too good to lose in a series like this.

In order to draw in tourists, South Bass Island is hosting Bastille Week, and Bea and her book club are reading A Tale of Two Cities as a result. However, the added tourists bring chaos even before someone is murdered.

While I wasn't familiar with the Dickens classic, the parallels are pointed out for us, so that wasn't an issue. Instead, I could focus on the mystery, which threw me completely several times, although I did finally get part of the solution correct. The characters are strong, and the book just has a sense of fun that made it hard to put down.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

You get to fight Mario enemies seriously I just took the enemies and moving to a different game (1 more)
Very interesting backdrop Side characters and monster designs
The Legend of Zelda Mario Style
Link crashes on a foreign Island meets up with a lot of really zany characters and has to wake up a magical fish God that's trapped inside of an egg on top of a mountain by collecting 8 different magical instruments

Pretty crazy story even for a Zelda game my favorite thing about this game is the very imaginative ideas put into it everything from the creatures to the mini-games to the characters to the backdrops it just has a lot of personality and uniqueness put into it

This book did a good job of helping me envision life on Maui during the late 60s and early 70s. The imagery was beautiful and has definitely inspired me to visit the island of Maui on my next trip to Hawaii. However, the main character, Carrie Ann, was not always likable to me. I found her extremely naive and a bit annoying at times. Also, prepare yourself for some heavy topics towards the end. All in all I enjoyed the book, but due to my dislike towards Carrie Ann during certain points and some minor grammar errors, I give it 4 stars.

*Although I did receive this book for free through Goodreads First Reads, all of my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wonderfully descriptive, bits to move the story along, somewhat compelling characters. There are different parts I loved and different parts that were just so slow. The first 3 pages was description of the island we would be visiting and not really any story. 1/4 of the way in it picked up and continued for about a few chapters but then we got to mid way and it just started to get hard to believe and continued on a slow pace until the end.
I did really like how we learned of Alison through articles, many people's recalled memories, her diary entries. These are the parts I felt kept the book interesting after each chapter we'd get more and more of Alison.
