Good and Bad
Overall not a terrible movie. I think it did one thing really well and one not so well. The look at loneliness in space and the journey of a man to find the father who left him. These are powerful emotions and feeling that I personally relate to and I'm sure there are many others that also relate to this. This is what Ad Astra does really well. However, the overall story is rather lacking in depth other than that.

"Hoop Dreams is, again, someone telling you the truth. This time, it’s about the glamorized, flashy, perfectly packaged machine that is basketball. You think, this is cool, this is what it’s supposed to be, I’m sure all these people are living great lives. Then you see this is what the grind is, and it mirrors your own upbringing in some way. You understand that everybody starts from somewhere and everybody’s got a journey and it doesn’t always work out the way you intended."

"I also read a book recently called Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. She's phenomenal, and she's written so many beautiful books. Purple Hibiscus was also quite moving, about a family - a daughter, and a brother, a mother and a father - and these deep, intricate details of their life and the complexities of it all. You find yourself falling in love with this family and really being taken on their journey, their heartbreak, and their secrets - it is a beautiful and amazing read."

"Captured used to be my favourite Jenkins romance, but Night Hawk recently took the top spot because its lead couple is just so brilliant. This historical romance follows an infamous Wild West gunslinger turned US Marshall as he transports a feisty prisoner. They prove her innocence, fall in love, thwart various nefarious plots on their journey home, and generally run around being badass. I especially fell in love with the plucky, witty heroine and her completely relatable thirst for revenge."

"I enjoy reading epic stories from ancient history and in recent years have been reading abridged versions aloud to my kids. This epic poem was found on a series of ancient tablets from Mesopotamia written down over 4,000 years ago, and involves the central character Gilgamesh, an excessive and oppressive leader, and his arduous journey in pursuit of the secrets of immortality. His character evolves through his personal voyage towards accepting death, and you encounter so many tales that you recognize from history."

"An inspirational, life changing book about an amazing personal journey. I first read it just as I was starting college, and I’d grown up in a pretty poor, rough part of London. At the time I was heavily into music by Public Enemy and loved Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing. So listening to Chuck D and Spike Lee talking about Malcom X motivated me to search out the book as I wanted to learn about the man for myself."
