Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2464 KP) rated The Mark of Athena in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The seven demigods from Camp Half-Blood and New Rome set off on their journey to Rome to face down the rising ancient powers. With several side quests calling to them, will they be able to survive until they reach Rome? While all these books have been formulaic, this was one very bad in that regard. I was bored until we actually reached Rome, where things really picked up.

I get that this book is not for everyone, and I can see how it would be enjoyable to some (sort of), but personally I thought that this book was twice as long as it needed to be, was hugely over descriptive, was slow and I just didn't get it.
It was a dragged out story of a journey from one place to another where nothing really that interesting happens...
Unless you are into the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings style books/films etc, I would strongly recommend that you don't read this.

This is probably one of the best books that I have ever read. I return to it, time and time again. The typical utopian society gone wrong theme requires you to really analyze your life and ponder on if the world could ever get to that point. Following Jonas through his life altering journey, with an ending that leaves one wondering is part of what makes this book a great book to be taught in schools. I first found out about this book through one of my high school English courses.

Beautiful Infertility Memoir
I believe this is a book that anyone dealing with fertility issues should give a good thorough read. Even though there were a number of grammatical errors, J.T. perfectly captured the feelings of blind hope, crushing defeat, more hope, despair, obsession, and joy that come along with the infertility "journey". Her sense of humor through the entire ordeal was uplifting. I laughed, cried, and was over the moon alongside her. It gives hope that there is indeed "light at the end of the birth canal".

A wonderful isnight
Anyone who has not read this book and thinks they know Paul Merton, think again. This book is a marvellous insight into the life of one of our funniest comedians and presenters. Its humorus mostly but also contains poignant moments and reveations about his life that will astound and surprise you in equal measure. From his early childhood memories of radio comedy to presenting Have I Got News For You. Its a journey that will keep you engaged from beginning to end.

Very funny
It’s no law and order
Happy - a darkly comical crime series with plenty of action and outrageousness!! The series features Christopher Meloni ( looking somewhat ragged compared to his SVU days) we an ex cop turned hitman, that is injured and begins to see a flying blue unicorn.
His irritating blue sidekick takes him on an hilarious journey to rescue a young girl, who is the unicorn’s best friend! Expect a few laughs at this noir-ish style comedy that takes you to the borders of insanity!

Script
Rap battle flick with tons of heart
A Brit movie about the underground Rap Battle culture but more than that this movie comes with a story that has a ton of heart.
I was sucked in instantly by the background of our main character and when we meet the supporting characters in the rap side of things it just cements the journey we are about to take.
Having Shotty Horroh in there just legitimised the culture they were trying to inhabit

Wasn't expecting that
I LOVED this film. It was one of those where after I watched it I was running down the street asking everyone"have you seen Mandy yet?". It's art house horror which may sound atrocious but here it is also accessable with Nicholas Cage almost mocking himself ironically within the scenes. It is a majestic challenge of current horror and deserves recognition for being a genre busying audacious middle finger to conventional boring run of the mill horror and takes you, instead in a journey into insanity

This book has been on my to-read list for some time both because it is a classic and because it is a favorite of my dads and older brothers. I absolutely loved this book. It was beautifully written and the tone was unique. I greatly enjoyed going on the complicated emotional journey of Montag. The world that Bradbury created was imaginative while also feeling like a possibility for a dystopian future. I loved this book and honestly want to read it again because I feel like each read through would give you more.
