My Way West tells the story of real kids that traveled the trails across the west. The children told the stories and through their quotes and paragraphs about how folks decided to move west—the journey across the Oregon trails, California Trails, and Momon trails.
The kids told these journeys on the trails through the images and how life was on the trails. Children will be able to learn about the life and history of the US and the Oregon trails. This book shows tragedy and how everyone came together and helped each other along the way. Children can learn about this and American history by reading this book, not of it but a good glimpse of it.
I enjoy learning about the western expansion and the Oregon trails. I am one of those kinds of readers. I was learning about history through books and how life may have been back then—the dangers of it. When reading this book, I read the quotes first and then the information on the page. Tough, you can read it by doing the significant info about the journey or the topic that was talked about and then the quotes after. It doe not really make a difference in what way you read it. I enjoy that. There is no right way to read this book.
I like the focus was on the actual kids that traveled the Organ and California Trails. The author does a beautiful job of that. This book is suitable for middle-grade readers who want to learn about American history. This book would be an excellent book to have in classrooms as well.

Emotional drama with unexpected mystery suspense
I was a little hesitant to read this as it what I had seen about it indicated that it was an 'emotional', 'touching' story, possibly a tear-jerker - not my kind of thing, as I generally prefer books with a dramatic narrative rather than exploring character relationships. I was, however pleasantly surprised.
The novel manages to interweave the development of relationships and characters with the subplot of a mystery. I found myself invested in Eleanor as a character as we delve into her psyche and analyse it alongside her. Frustrating at times and funny at others, it makes for an interesting journey.
The underlying mystery is not overplayed - exposing itself naturally over the course of Eleanor's development and leading to a satisfying resolution.

This book was full of unexpected surprises. Although, the first 36 chapters more so tell the story of the young boys life than his journey at sea, it is filled with such strong emotions that you feel as though you're there with him. His struggles through adolescence make you familiar with Pi in a way we need to really understand why he does all the things he does. When he is overcome by hopelessness, you feel it, when he is overjoyed, you feel that, as well. This is a truly well written work of art with quite an ending. The animal lover in us all cringes at some of the scenes as we play them in our minds but it is understandable and necessary. I would definitely recommend this.

When I read this it about Mattie and her family getting ready to journey west. We follow Mattie and her family. Not all are going West for more land and affordable prices. We learn that another family is going to join them to go west.
Mattie has her dreams of see the Western horizon. Will she go and see the country or will she keep her pledge. Jacob see her and see Mattie after few years. It been a while. Is there love between Jacob and Maddie?
There are some surprises along the way. Will happen with Schrock family and will they be happy. Mattie got her dreams and Jacob has his. What will happen. This is the story of Mattie. Will she be tempted to follow as Englisher or will she keep her pledge?

This is one of my all time favorite movies! I will watch this movie anytime it is on tv and will pull out the DVD anytime I want a good movie to watch. The story is motivational and shows the power of family and the power of passion. Mel Gibson's character Ben, starts off as a simple farmer, raising his seven children in the pre-revolutionary war colonies. His son Gabriel (Heath Ledger), sees what is coming and wants to be apart of it. One fateful day, events happen that force Ben into a war he wants no part of. It is a journey that changes all the characters in ways they never expected. I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves historical movies, who loves action movies, and who loves really good movies.

An epic rambling cinematic adventure and a gem that is filled with humor and amazing moments... my favorite Coen brothers film.
I just love this movie.... George Clooney as the smooth and fast talking pretty boy... and John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson. I don't think there is a performance that falls short of excellent from the entire cast. Even the blind Radio Station Man. The soundtrack alone gets played a lot on my iPod. I love the old timey feel and the great rhythm. It's so damn catchy. The whole thing feels like an epic goofy journey and it's inspired by Homer, so you know it's good. For added goodness, here's some alternate movie posters...
