The Yellow Hummer is a Christmas story about a little boy named Jordan who gets a yellow Hummer with a remote control from Santa. His grandma helps him open it, but the wire gets cut and Jordan is upset that his toy won't work the way it's supposed to. He is upset for a while, but then forgives his grandma because even though it doesn't work the way it was made to work, the hummer isn't broken, and he loves his grandma more than his toy. The Yellow Hummer strives to show that people are more important than things.

The Yellow Hummer had nice illustrations, though they weren't fantastic, and was written pretty well. There are some pretty big words, like atmosphere and successfully and troublesome, as if the writer is trying to introduce some bigger words into children's literature and daily vocabulary. There isn't too much text on one page that you'd loose a kid's attention, either.

The Westing Game enthralled me from the very first page and I had a hard time putting the book down from that point on. Full of atmosphere, Ms. Raskin wrote a smart, clever, and intriguing story that had my mind striving to figure out the mystery within. A short book (my copy was 182 pages), the author nevertheless managed to capture the characters, the settings, and everything really, with a skillful ease. Written for children, I think I'd be bereft in mentioning that it is much more mature than a typical "kid's book" and I imagine many adults would enjoy this if they're into well-executed mysteries. I appreciated the "epilogue," of sorts, although felt a few things were too pat, but overall it was a near perfect story. Though I never quite unraveled the whole puzzle, the journey alone was worth the enjoyment I got out of this book.

"I saw him on the Jay Leno show, and I thought 'wow, this is a good band'. It was like the Kings of Leon, southern rock, and he came on with that thing and I thought 'I wonder where this kid's from, he must be from the South somewhere'. And then when Jay Leno says 'that was great', Paolo says [adopts Scottish accent] 'thank you very much', and I thought 'he's fucking Scottish!' So it's great, but the album he did as well, that's great. I play that - there's so many great things on there. Again, it's fresh, it's different from other things, so I hope he can come up with more, because he writes as well. And Ethan John [Jones's producer for Spirit In The Room] produced the album, which I didn't know, when I heard the album. There's a jazz band thing, a traditional jazz band thing. 'Simple Things In Life', I like that, about going round to his mother's for tea, it's great. He paints a picture, you can see him do it."
