Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated Ransom (1996) in Movies
Jul 14, 2020 (Updated Jul 14, 2020)
The plot: Through a life of hard work, airline owner Tom Mullen (Mel Gibson) has amassed a great deal of wealth. When a group of criminals want a piece of his cash, they kidnap his son (Brawley Nolte) for a $2 million ransom. Encouraged by his wife (Rene Russo) and an FBI agent (Delroy Lindo), Tom prepares to pay the money, but the ransom drop goes awry. Enraged, Tom decides to turn the tables on the kidnappers by making the ransom a bounty on their heads -- which he announces on national television.
The original story came from a 1954 episode of The United States Steel Hour titled "Fearful Decision". In 1956, it was adapted by Richard Maibaum and Cyril Hume into the feature film Ransom!, starring Glenn Ford, Donna Reed, and Leslie Nielsen. The film was also influenced by Ed McBain's police procedural novel King's Ransom.
Also it has a great surporting cast: Rene Russo, Gary Sinise, Brawley Nolte, Delroy Lindo, Liev Schreiber, Evan Handler, Donnie Wahlberg, and Lili Taylor. Gibson. Ron Howard does it again.
Its a great thriller and a must watch film, it will leave you on the edge of your seat until the very end of the film.

What follows is roughly two weeks of time where multiple kidnap attempts, shifter trafficking, fated mates, old blood laws, and multiple challenges are held, and I'm sure I've missed something out! If you're looking for a fast-paced book, this is definitely one of those!
With it being so fast-paced, I actually missed some of the softer times between Julien and Keir. Yes, they're fated mates, but they really didn't have much time to get to know each other before things went crazy - one way or another.
The epilogue gives a nice closure to their story, whilst leaving me wanting more. I really want to know about the kidnapped babies! A great beginning to a new series and definitely recommended by me.

Merissa (13792 KP) rated Flight of the Wren in Books
May 20, 2023
What I got is a book that I completely immersed myself in. I was lost within Renny's world of school, flying carpets, and first love. I loved the dream meetings she had with Parnell, as well as the Kettle meetings. These characters have a wide range of ages, and as such, it is a well-rounded group that you read about. The struggles that Renny faces are real, but she still manages to find time for love. And let's face it, what 17-year-old girl wouldn't do the same?
However, Flight of the Wren is not all sweetness and light. There is a 'big bad' in the shape of Mistral, an old apprentice of Parnell's. With kidnap, violence, friendship, loyalty, and more, this is one eventful book that will tug at your heartstrings, whilst giving you a thrilling ride. I absolutely loved this book, and can't wait to read Spark. Highly recommended.

Carma (21 KP) rated Never Resist a Sheikh (International Bad Boys #10) in Books

Zakir Al-Nazari is the ruling sheikh of Al-Shakhra and needs a bride asap. His government is losing faith in his ruling capabilities and the only way he can figure to keep the peace is to take a bride. He was trying to kidnap the bride meant for a neighboring sheikh but the intel was wrong and he ended up with Felicity. Now he needs to convince her to stay and help him and his country.
I am not typically a sheikh genre fan but given the fact that I adore Jackie Ashenden I gave it a go. It was a good book but it didnt sway me to the genre haha. I will say however that I enjoyed it more than I ever thought I would and I credit her writing style for that. If you havent read anything by Jackie before I would highly recommend her. If sheikhs tickle your fancy try Never Seduce a Sheikh or Never Refuse a Sheikh.
