Quite a few plot holes, not very developed writing style
I enjoyed the concept of mixing both an apocalyptic scenario with a dystopian fiction, such as a cross between the Hunger Games and High Rise, however, I thought it fell short in many ways. The context was not particularly developed as we had little understanding of what really happened before and after the Melting. The idea of language as a weapon pre-apocalypse was also not very clear. There was a wild amount of movement and action that was also not fully formed, so it made it difficult to envisage the characters travelling from A to B. Overall, a great, relevant and contemporary topic with a few descriptive flaws.

Emotional nutrition
Rupi Kaur puts so simply and articulates so clearly the feelings that so many have felt but not expressed. Her poems are so strikingly relatable and honest. Of course, it raises the question about what constitutes modern poetry given the odd structure, almost haiku-like. However, this is subjective.

This poem reads as a self-help or mindfulness book to a certain extent, but it is communicated through beautiful images and flowing language. It covers some hard-hitting topics and describes what it is like to be a woman in this day and age. If you're unsure on whether you'll enjoy it, go check out her Instagram page for snippets of her books.

Interesting and useful
@Duolingo is one of the most popular language learning apps on the market, so it was only a matter of time it explored other avenues. With its new Spanish podcast range, it has upped its game, as it feels much more useful and meaningful than learning sentences such as "I am a pretty duck".

The main topic of discussion is life experiences, from meeting heroes to rites of passage - it seems far more relevant than the content of the app. And the podcast is bilingual. However, it is for intermediate level which is perhaps why the content is a bit more interesting and varied. So far, so good.

Are you hungry?
My nearly 5-year-old was so excited when I showed her the advanced review copy of this title and immediately settled down to read it to the family. This is a lovely little story, much like many of Julia Donaldson's other titles which engage the young mind. Well illustrated to give non-readers something to engage their interest but with language that is accessible to younger readers also, the rhyming line endings engage their mind and enjoyment.
I would definitely recommend this to a Julia Donaldson fan and for Nursery and Primary Schools as well as local libraries. This is a classic of the future.

Lighthearted, great banter, with recaps of murders that the hosts have researched and retell in their own unique personality. Kindness, crime, foul language and lots of laughs. (0 more)

Hysterical, and a little eerie.
Two true friends with a passion for true crime take an oftentimes hysterical, but also sad and somber look at murder cases over the centuries. It's a great, quick, lightweight fix for folks who enjoyed Dirty John, Wrongful Conviction, and This American Life. It's light on the editing, and high on the community connection. They also poke at things that are creepy and while not all the murders have resolution, there's always something interesting and nothing that'll give you nightmares.
