Exposition ahoy!
Hughie is back from his sabbatical and contemplating rejoining The Boys in their crusade against capes. He spends some time with Colonel Mallory, the man who set The Boys up in the first place, and learns more about the history of corrupt corporation Vought American, and their attempts to use superheroes in the military.
Meanwhile, one of the Seven, Jack from Jupiter, is being framed for the murder of a trans prostitute. This story was harder to read, because of the language used by Butcher in speaking to and about the trans people.
Things are starting to come to a head, and it feels like Ennis has his eyes on the finish line, and is now putting in all the back story and setting up the inevitable conflict.

I had no concept of what to expect from this (very) short story but that made it all the more fun. Told in a series of email exchanges, a letter and a newspaper report, things start innocuously enough with new employee Jim Fosse requesting money to cover his expenses for his recent business trips.

Ramon Ortiz, the hapless HR employee who responds tries to get Fosse to fill in the correct form, provide receipts and follow procedures. Fosse is reluctant to do this and as the emails from Fosse become more and more aggressive and personal it becomes very clear just what he is trying to claim for.

Eventually the situation resolves in a shocking manner which is still very funny.

Rated: Strong and insulting language and sexual references

A wonderfully festive story
Until now, I don't think I've ever read a specifically Christmas themed book and especially not one based around the origin of Father Christmas. Until now that is, and what a wonderfully festive book to choose.

This is ultimately a kids book, so it's nothing fancy language-wise but it's still very well written and engaging. Nikolas is an endearing and lovable main character, although I think him and the rest of the characters in this book are not as well developed as they could be (probably because it's a kids book). The story itself is such fun and heartwarming and quite amusing at times, and it's a great idea for the origin of Father Christmas. It has definitely helped me to get into the festive spirit!
