"The clarity of prose which Ishiguro achieves in this novel is the treat here. He is a master of the sentence, a sorcerer of language; the writing here is quiet, calm, and mesmerizing."

Great but lacks depth
To start learning a language or refresh yourself on a language long ago forgotten, this is a great app to use.

I'm currently re-learning German after taking it at school and it's a great app to use. The interface is user-friendly and it works very well in bitesize chunks so you don't overface yourself. I like that they've introduced the conversations section to actually "talk" to people properly as opposed to reading/saying sometimes hilarious and bizarre sentences in the main learning section.

The main issue with it is that it doesn't go into any real depth on grammar or reasoning behind the language. Like where to use certain endings to words or how to work out which tense or which identifier - I'm forever struggling to remember whether it starts with der, die, das etc. I feel like even when I eventually complete all lessons and reach what Duolingo classes as 100% fluency, I'll still need to supplement it with other learning to truly master the language.

Beautifully written, a bit too much romance, but I can take it for the quality of the language and the general story line. Witches are in for the season and this read is perfect!

I played Bokus with my nephews, they liked it but struggled with the player elimination aspect. That said I picked it because there is no language, and I wanted to challenge them to abstract thinking.

Saw an advanced showing of this movie and I thought it was so uplifting even though there were cringeworthy moments because of some of the racist language and actions, but that made the movie authentic.

Easy interface
Duolingo is one of the best app out there to help anyone learn a new langue. Although it it not as great as its website the app does enough for those who are simply on the go and can’t get on to their laptops to dive more into learning a new language. With the constant repetition of words, sentences, or phrases it help individuals retain information much easier. Duolingo definitely makes leaning a new language much more fun and pleasant.

"I’m just obsessed by Lionel Bart. He’s just an amazing character. When you get someone like him who really understood Dickens, you’re away, it’s a chain of brilliant people. I think these songs are very similar to what dad was writing, I mean he pre-empted him, Lionel Bart, but ‘Pam’s Moods’ and Oliver are really similar in the construction of language. The language is so fucking brilliant in Oliver, the melodies, it’s just unbelievable songwriting. That 1960 production, Ron Moody who plays Fagin is particularly brilliant."
