Ross (3284 KP) rated Spy (2015) in Movies
Nov 20, 2017
What a great laugh. Where other spy spoof films have focused too much on the comedy and not bothered with a decent story, this feels more like a decent spy film with a good amount of comedy injected in.
Jude Law plays pretty much every role he has ever played, as does Jason Statham - to hilarious results.
Peter Serafinowicz is great as an Italian sex pest (like a young Berlusconi).
Melissa McCarthy is simply brilliant in this film, at times soft and sensitive, then hard and uncompromising.
Even Miranda Hart doesn't manage to spoil it!

Fresh take on zombies (1 more)
Light hearted drama not too brain taxing
Light hearted zombie comedy drama
If your a hard-core zombie fan and looking for a walking dead companion then you'll be disappointed. However if your looking for a funny entertaining comedy drama to enjoy when your relaxing then you'll love it. It's a great fresh take on zombies after the recent overload of the walking dead, fear the walking dead and the like. Season 3 is as strong as the previous 2 imo

Extremely dark, black comedy based on a true story
That scene woodchipper scene will haunt me for life.
Truth is definitely stranger than fiction. This extremely dark 'comedy' is now infamous in gallows humour. Without revealing everything, a woman is kidnapped by a psychotic conman and his slightly weedy partner for ransom. Her husband is in charge of gaining this ransom from his father-in-law, only for things to go very, very wrong.
It's a classic cult film, not for everyone. But if you loved 'In Bruges', this will be right up your street.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2357 KP) rated Bundle of Trouble (A Maternal Instincts Mystery, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Just as she is going into labor, Kate Connolly learns her brother-in-law, George, is missing and may be a murder victim. While trying to juggle becoming a mother, Kate also tries to learn what is really going on with George. I found the scenes between mother and baby heart warming and the plot intriguing. I didn't want to put it down, and can't wait to read the next one.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2357 KP) rated Catering to Nobody (A Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The first in the series, caterer Goldy Bear is upset when her former father-in-law is poisoned at a funeral she is catering. When the police shut her down, she starts digging to find out who did it. I thought the characters were well formed and interesting, but the plot moved a little slow and I had some trouble believing how much the police told her.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2357 KP) rated Down the Rabbit Hole (Echo Falls, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
13-year-old Ingrid solves the murder of the crazy lady in her town after realizing she is the last one to see the victim alive. Aimed at teens, and they will probably enjoy it more then I did. I found the characters real but the plot very slow. What really bothered me was all the sneaking around and law breaking Ingrid did to solve the mystery.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2357 KP) rated Murphy's Law (Molly Murphy Mysteries, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Molly Murphy flees for her life from her native Ireland and winds up on Ellis Island for the opening day in 1901. The luck of the Irish evades her, however, when someone dies while they are on the island and Molly stands accused of the crime. The set up, while necessary, slows the beginning down. However this is still a good series opener to a character I now love.
