Lived up to the hype
Man, I love this movie. I actually would watch it before most of the Harry Potter films. Just everything about it hit the right chords for me. I loved the new characters and found them just as lovable as the original trio. The fresh setting of New York is also a welcome change of pace.
I thought that this film balanced the darkness and humor so well, which is something Rowling has always done well...I should never have doubted her! Far from a die-hard fan, but am more than pleased that this film lived up to my expectations. Looking forward to the sequel (although I have my reservations about Depp and Law).

Riveting
This fascinating 1991 drama follows the friendship of Peter Burton (John Cusack) and Tim Gerrity (James Spader) from it's inception in law school to its grim finale on election night. Gerrity is that rare bird, a man from a wealthy family who simply wants to leave the world a better place than he found it. Peter comes from much more humble origins and is driven to succeed at any cost. Their unlikely friendship rises and falls around their career choices. We the viewers are left wondering if anyone as driven as Peter could ever be satisfied with the simple wholesome pleasures in life, like truth or friendship. Well paced, still highly relevant, and a well told tale.

book description:
All it took was one scone. When the hot-tempered (and widely hated) hobbyist Yvonne Gaynor eats a tainted pastry at Kiki's scrapbooking crop party, it triggers an allergy that leads to Yvonne's death. Even worse, the police suspect foul play when they realize that someone tampered with the treats and swiped the victim's allergy medication.
An expert at stealing design ideas, Yvonne had enough enemies to fill a memory album. Soon, the scrapbooking community pins her murder on Kiki's friends and our ace scrapper finds herself dealing with anti-Semitic threats at the shop, a quarrelsome pre-teen daughter at home, a meddlesome mother-in-law, and constant financial pressure. Despite help from the handsome yet annoyingly coy Detective Detweiler, Kiki has her work cut out for her in solving the crime.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans (2009) in Movies
Apr 8, 2018
I recently watched the first Bad Lieutenant film, not sure if this is a sequel of sorts or not? It is no where near as dramatic as the first, but I actually prefer this version as it has a bit more structure to it and less random. Cage plays a cop who may do bad things but often it is a means to an end. He has a drug problem, gambling and is walking a fine line on being the wrong side of the law. Can he redeem himself when a family of 5 is killed in a drug shooting. This is an enjoyable film, Cage's performance does get a bit trippy at times. Overall it's a entertaining film with a good story if not anything ground breaking.

Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated Den Of Thieves (2018) in Movies
Feb 4, 2020
The Heist
Den of Thieves- is a decent action heist thriller, its also very slow at many points throughout the movie, only when the action hits thats when the movie is good.
The Plot: Nick O'Brien is the hard-drinking leader of the Regulators, an elite unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Ray Merrimen is the recently paroled leader of the Outlaws, a gang of ex-military men who use their expertise and tactical skills to evade the law. O'Brien, Merrimen and their crews soon find themselves on a direct collision course as the criminals hatch an elaborate plan for a seemingly impossible heist -- the city's Federal Reserve Bank.
Gerald Butler, Pablo Schrieber and O'Shea Jackson Jr. are all good in this film.
What else can i say.
