Good Vamp movies can be counted on the fingers of one hand in my opinion.
This one is a study of an adolescent boy who is bullied which juxtaposes an ageing mans loyalty and the need to serve.....his vampire ward.
No over the top SFX here as this is no run of the mill ordinary vampire movie, its strength lies in it's well thought out story that lodges in your brain much longer than it's running time..essential viewing!

2.5 stars.

This wasn't really, in my opinion, a romance. I don't know. There was so much going on. Lies, abuse, killings... typical pirates, I guess, but I struggled to get into it. I didn't understand the allure of the captain, really, but he managed to get two guys wanting him and having him. I was intrigued by the story but I didn't entirely get it. What was with the heart thing?

I dont think I'll be reading the rest of the series.

"Although Mike Leigh’s family dramas, such as High Hopes and Secrets & Lies, have had a more apparent influence on my work, Naked is my favorite film of Leigh’s. It’s in my top ten favorite films ever made. It’s an exhausting odyssey that never gets the characters (or the viewer) home again. “Tell me, love, are you aware of the effect you have on the average mammalian, Mancunian, XY-ly chromosome, slavering, lusty male member of the species?” Now, that’s dialogue!"
