"Pride and Prejudice. I love sweeping British drama period pieces and I hope that one day I can do one just like that, because, to me, I love old English literature. And I’m a big Keira Knightley fan. It’s just so beautiful aesthetically and in terms of story."

I'm not sure why so many people hated this book...it's kind of cute.

I tried reading the second one though and don't think I'm going to finish it...

If you are 14 then this is probably literature...LOL

Seriously though...solid 2.5/3 stars...not good but not horrible :c)

I liked this book a lot tbh. The ending was cute, the illustrations were nice, and the writing didn't "talk down" to readers like some picture books do. The only complaint I have is that the pacing felt a little rushed. But maybe that's just me.

"It came out in 1964. He said things that hadn’t been said in print [the book investigates human imagination and creativity in the arts and sciences – Literature Ed]. I don’t like to read now – I don’t read nothing’! Why not? My eyes are crummy, so I can’t read that comfortably."

"This is the best book for understanding the early history of society, literature and politics of Northern Europe. Without Saxo’s research and extensive work in compiling ancient texts and oral stories, our knowledge of early Nordic, Germanic, Celtic and English cultures and nation-building would be far poorer than it is."

I have waited to read this book for a few years now and I am not sure why I did that. This book is phenomenal and gives a different insight into World War 2 that I haven't often seen in literature, especially in young adult literature.

Susan did a beautiful job in making his characters as human as possible. They were all multidimensional and we'll thought out. I truly loved them.

The narrator being who he was have this another deeper level that I very much respected. It became more than just Leisel's story and instead became everyone's story.

Overall, I adored this book and need to pick up another of Zusak's.

A shadow of Gulls is thus based primarily on the 'Ulster' series of legends, and (for me) was one of the rare instances where literature is synonymous with entertainment!

"I have to include Faulkner. With multiple narrators, shifts in time, and sentences that go on for a thousand words, it is an Everest-like challenge. But its epic story of the doomed Sutpen dynasty is a masterpiece of Southern literature. Read it slowly (you pretty much have to) and savor every word."

"One of the most beautifully told family sagas in world literature. Exploring gender identity, ethnic identity, American dream, immigrants, family memories and collective myths… but to me this is primarily a novel about belonging—how we fail but still somehow find the hope and the will to continue to try to belong."

It's an exciting time for international literature, and the breadth and diversity of these longlists reflect that.

From established authors like Javier Marías to new voices like Basma Abdel Aziz, from works of speculative fiction like Wicked Weeds to family sagas from Senegal like Doomi Golo, there’s something on here for every type of reader.
