Original spin on Alien contact
It's life Jim but not as we know it
I saw this at the cinema and must admit it wasn't what I expected. More of a thinking persons Sci-fi film. It has some interesting ideas and Amy Adams is brilliant. However I think it's one a lot of people might not understand. One that will divide opinion.

Movie Critics (823 KP) rated The Dinner (2017) in Movies
May 4, 2017
The four-handed set-up (though other characters, and a number of wobbly flashbacks, intrude) may well recall Yasmina Reza’s acrid couple-combat in her play God of Carnage. If you thought that foursome were rotten eggs, get a load of this lot.

BookCritics (259 KP) rated Magpie Murders in Books
Jun 12, 2017
I recommend this to you if you’ve read quite some Agatha Christie and appreciate a crime novel inspired by her work. She is mentioned quite a lot in the book, so if you don’t know the author or don’t like her books, I think you’ll find this irritating.

Story
Andy Serkis ape mannerisms
Interesting take on the origins of the Ape world
A really interesting take in the origins of the Ape revolution. I enjoyed this a lot. Andy Setkis as Ceaser deserves all the exclaim he got, and Franco gives a good performance
my one gripe is that it felt a tad long and for me would have worked better around 90mins.

Jenny Houle (24 KP) rated Facebook in Apps
Jan 13, 2018
I like FB, but the app itself is shoddy at best. It takes up a lot of memory, and if you're an android user you've probably encountered the fact that all the newer phones no longer allow for apps to move over to an external SDCard, meaning that apps like FB make your phone memory full...which sucks even more because it comes pre-installed on all the new androids, too.

Alison Pink (7 KP) rated The Biology of Luck in Books
Jan 15, 2018
Well, I'm not quite sure what to say about this book. It was okay. There were parts that really dragged on & on, but there were some portions that did redeem the book a little bit. All in all it was just a strange story though. There wasn't a whole lot happening which made it difficult for me to get through. It was very descriptive, but I hated the ending.

SummerLGrant (185 KP) rated Marvel's The Defenders - Season 1 in TV

Everyone holds their own (3 more)
Goes some way to repairing the damage Iron Fist did to Claire Temple's character
A slow burner with great attention to story
Colour schemes for each Defender spread throughout the series
It took too long for all of them to get together (2 more)
Marvel shows usually have 13 episodes and this had 8 - this impacted the story a lot
Iron Fist
Not a knock-out but still brilliant

Erika (17789 KP) rated Chasing Aphrodite in Books

This book was full of insight. If you've ever wondered how some museums got certain antiquities, this has a lot of answers. While, it doesn't happen with every single museum, it still makes you wonder. This book focuses on the J. Paul Getty Museum in LA. It was immensely readable, and I loved it. The book also had an amazing bibliography, which led me to other books about the same subject.

Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated Knit Socks!: 17 Patterns for Cozy Feet in Books
Apr 27, 2018
Nice patterns, but nothing I haven't seen before. I like most of them, but again it's your average sock knitting book. I guess there's only so many socks under the sun? I really like fair isle and there were only a few fair isle and color combo socks. There was a lot of lace and I don't do lace. It really depends on what kind of socks you like.

Andrew Koltuniuk (767 KP) rated Armada in Books

a lot of innuendos (1 more)
A little slow at the beginning
Interesting book
This book is a little slow to start off. That would be my biggest criticism of it. However, once it gets going, it's a roller coaster ride from there. The book just gets more interesting the further you go. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to read a good book.
