Great story
Must watch TV
A truly binge worthy TV programme that will whizz by at just 8 episodes long. I had heard many good reviews for this and highly rated by TV critics as well. It has a very good gripping storyline that will hook you in. As slowly more is revealed over time and in flashbacks why an apparently random act of violence has a lot more to it. Great acting from the leads as well. If you like crime thrillers then check this out!

Russ Troutt (291 KP) rated Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) in Movies

Solo was amazing! I loved it! Aside from a few cheesy Empire lines, which what do you expect from those Empire folks, I thought it was a great story with an outstanding cast and put together wonderfully. One aspect that really made it great to watch was a lot of the make-up and effects felt more practical and less cheap cgi, which is why out of the newer Star Wars movies I love Rogue One and Solo. A really fun and great movie I definitely suggest seeing.

Love Social Deduction? Then Love Secret Hitler!
This is one of the best social deduction (if not THE best) games I've ever played: and I've played a lot of them. I highly recommend getting a group of friends together to play this: you will not regret yelling at each other for an hour about who's Hitler and who's not. So fun!
Pretty good business book. A lot of it is just stuff that companies aren't doing, which really bothers me. (Just put the right people in the right seats! Make a 10-year goal! Focus on your core-process and let the rest fall off! etc)
I guess I feel it's a little longer than it needs to be to hit some predetermined word-count or page-count target (I guess so they can charge more or make it seem thick enough to be worth purchasing, etc).
I'd still recommend it, especially to top management everywhere.

Wide of the mark
Luc Besson has done some very good action films so I hoped this would be a high adrenaline fueled action ride. Unfortunately it's quite average by the numbers stuff. Lots of double agents and double crosses but it's not as intelligent as it thinks it is. A lot of hopping back and forth in time which wasn't really necessary. It isn't as good as @Red Sparrow (2018) or @Atomic Blonde (2017) which both have a similar theme. Ok for a watch but fairly forgettable.

So many 80's references (1 more)
More action
Keeps getting better
You start to worry with some series that start so well, can the next series be as good? Well no worries here as each new series of Stranger Things keeps outdoing the previous one. There are some great characters old and new in this and the chemistry between them is great. There are a lot of influences from some cool 80's films, from The Thing to The Terminator and plenty of others. If you enjoyed the other series you'll love this just as much.

Anne (15117 KP) rated A Torch Against the Night (An Ember in the Ashes #2) in Books

I have mixed feelings about this book because of what's happening in the story. It's a very intense book with a lot of emotion and action and everything going on and I was caught off guard by quite a few things in this one.
I can't wait to find out what happens next!
If you haven't checked out this series, you should, but be warned, it's going to be a rollercoaster for you and your emotions. Also you'll likely have some book hangover issues after reading this series especially this book

Very similar to taxi driver (1 more)
A rip off of, the King of comedy
A great performance from Joaquin Phoenix is not enough to save this movie from being very average. I thought it was too similar to a lot of Martin Scorsese movies from the 70/80s, like Taxi driver and, The king of Comedy. This was a good film but, I felt like I’d seen it all before. I thought this was a bad attempt at replicating better films such as the King of Comedy.

Will read again
Contains spoilers, click to show
When reading this story, you feel like you need a intro book to fully understand the back story. While the main characters do build, and you end up liking them. There is a lot left to unfold. Since this is just book one, I have hopes with book two coming out in a couple months. That things will really spice up. Due to the ending with a good amount of drama. One things for sure, I will be rereading it before starting book two.

AT (1676 KP) rated Magus of the Library, Vol. 2 in Books
Jan 16, 2020
The first volume seemed like more of a mythical history lesson on the library and its caretakers in the story. The second volume starts with the main character being several years older, on his way to attempt the Kafna exam, so it's more of a full story volume. I ended up enjoying this volume a lot more than the first. As Theo travels to the Central Library, he visits neighboring cities and has experiences in each one. Each is woven nicely into a bit of an overall life lesson.
