Roger Corman recommended Citizen Kane (1941) in Movies (curated)

Citizen Kane (1941)
Citizen Kane (1941)
1941 | Classics, Drama, Mystery

"Citizen Kane: So many people would pick that and there isnโ€™t much I could say about it. The photography is extremely good. He was using a lot of low angles, he was using covered sets; and at that time, and still, very few art directors will put a ceiling on a set because it makes it very difficult to light, but he gave it a great feeling of realism. Also, it was a brilliant script. Itโ€™s well directed, well acted โ€” Welles himself is brilliant as Kane โ€” and it really stems from the script."

Well i'll be honest...from the read up the story sounded like it was going to be about some spoilt brat who got what she want the entire story before something went wrong and the first twenty per cent or so was like that. Then we began to see a softer more vulnerable side to Sophie. At around 30% she's sent to Africa and things got really interesting.

As it turns out i really enjoyed it. It was a lot different to other NA books I've read hence the 5* review.

*Sigh* Dax, Dax, Dax...you turned me inside out a little with your internal torturing of yourself. Why couldn't you just admit how you felt?! Both of you, really! All the hurt and pain could have been avoided so easily.

I loved Declan's book and was fascinated by his brother, Dax, so of course I had to read it. I did enjoy it but like I mentioned above, it tore me apart a little emotionally. These characters got to me. They went through a lot of crap before they got to the HEA.

Its been a while...

...Since I read the first four books in this series but I know I fell in love with them and Riley and Denver.

So yeah, I'd forgotten a lot of what went on and it took me a while to get into this. But I'm happy for the couple.

P.S. I'm not sure if this book has been updated since I bought it back in 2015/2016 but there are quite a few missing/extra words floating throughout and I'm pretty sure Fayne turns onto Faye at some point.

If I'd realised that letters were going to be a big part of this story back in 2013/14 or whenever I downloaded this, I really wouldn't have bothered. I struggle to get into stories like that, and have only managed to finish 1 or 2 stories that have featured letters. I just feel like we miss out on a lot of vital relationship growth, though this did have normal everyday bits between letters. I just felt that time went so quickly and we weren't really getting anywhere fast in their relationship.

What was with that ending? "Paradise is waiting for you." I really hope that's in regards to her getting a HEA in the end and not death because I don't think I could cope with that.

A proper rollercoaster once more. Loving some more Gods action, apart from that bit with Ares and Alex near the end. I wanted to murder him myself!

Off to start book 5! And hoping everything works out in the end for this lot and no more semi important characters getting killed off. Please...

Outlaw King (2018)
Outlaw King (2018)
2018 | Action, Drama, History
Opens with the threat of sweeping, gorgeous spectacle but not long after just sort of settles for a collection of watchable action scenes - and that's fine I guess. You've still got Taylor-Johnson in tasty nut mode (complete with peculiar accent) and some dirty, brute violence that doesn't fully satisfy but comes closer than a lot of these outings usually do. Nothing special whatsoever and actually made me retroactively second-guess how good ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ ๐˜๐˜ช๐˜จ๐˜ฉ ๐˜ž๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ actually was but you could do worse. I'm just tired of this rote historical B.S.

"I had no clue who they were [at the time]. There was a band called Zero Seven and a few other bands around at that time that were in the same realm in that the artists aren't visible. I challenge a lot of people to recognise these artists! You could sit next to them in the cinema and you wouldn't know. But this was a great album to just have on. And to be doing something else to. Having them on in the kitchen or garden โ€“ they're really great records to have as the backdrop."

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
1984 | Action, Adventure

"Indiana Jones, that trilogy I just rewatched on a plane from a holiday I just took. I watched all three, and Temple of Doom just continues to win me over. I know; usually, people like The Last Crusade, and thereโ€™s a lot of love for Raiders, because itโ€™s the original. But Temple of Doom is just, to me, so funny and entertaining and fun. And the kid from Goonies โ€” Hot Shot? Short Round. Heโ€™s so funny, and I grew up with Goonies, but I prefer him in Indiana Jones."

"Talking Book blew me away when I was going through a dry period in my writing. I heard Stevie Wonder and thought that I couldnโ€™t improve on what heโ€™s done, heโ€™s such a genius! I just fell in love with it, it was black soul music from that era, but sounds totally, totally now. One of things he developed was the protection of funk through the electronics of synthesiser, keyboard and singing. I think Sly had a lot to do with influencing Stevie at the time as well."
