I wanted so much more from this.
A lot of people I know loved this movie so I went in with really high expectations and for me I kind of just split this movie in two. On one side the plot was okay but I got pretty bored since it wasn't all that interesting. And then on the other hand you have the visuals which were brilliant they were both bright and vibrant and dark and creepy at the same time and while I can't tell you what most of the plot was I can say there were some amazing visuals.

Didn't Match Up
This book is about first love, and having a physical relationship for the first time. Normally I enjoy cute love stories, but this was a little flat. The topic and themes were solidly YA, but the writing style is more middle grade. This made the characters come across as younger than what they were. I think if the book had focused more on the emotional aspects of their relationship it would have been better. Unfortunately it was mostly about their sex life. The one up side is that the book did put a lot of emphasis on safe sex.

Sarah (7800 KP) rated Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018) in Movies

More of what we've already seen
The first Hotel Transylvania was actually fairly good, but it's a shame that both of the sequels have been poorer carbon copies. This third film especially is just more of the same; silly dance offs and music and a predictable and poor plot which isn't even funny. There are a lot of animated films that have humour for both kids and adults, but sadly this film isn't one of them. I'm sure the kids love it, but I really hope this is the last Hotel Transylvania film we'll ever see.
Better than the film
I really hate how difficult I find it to separate a book and the film adaptation. Whilst I didn't love the Birdbox film, i thought it was alright, however reading this book has really made me reconsider.
The book and film plots are similar, but the book seems a lot darker and creepier. The character of Malorie is different, nicer even but I dont think she is very well developed in this. This was a good book and an interesting take on the end of the world scenario, I just wish I'd read this before watching the film.

Lenard (726 KP) rated Dumbo (2019) in Movies
Apr 1, 2019
While in some ways a strange marriage, Dumbo has several Tim Burton elements: an evil rich guy, Michael Keaton/Danny DeVito/Eva Green, outsiders, people who don't get a lot of sun even though they live in a traveling circus. The most Tim Burton thing about it is when Dreamland is engulfed in smoke surrounded by dark clouds and Nightmare Island. The rest of the film is mostly live action Disney. Dumbo has Bambi-like doe eyes and except for the evil wannabe tycoon the humans are sentimental and protective of the kids.

Interesting storyline every episode
Excellent acting
From someone who doesn’t usually like medical dramas, I absolutely adore this show! It has more of a focus on the people side of things than the medical side of things (which is possibly why I like it so much!). A lot happens in each episode and to put that in perspective, everything in the trailer I watched for the show was in the first episode. I would definitely recommend this show to anyone who likes exploring relationships between characters, not just people who like medical shows!

Stephen (210 KP) rated Summer of 84 (2018) in Movies

Thoroughly enjoyed this, it was lovely to relive that 80’s movie vibe. If you enjoy ‘Stranger Things’ then you may enjoy this too, although the storyline is nowhere near as in depth as ‘Stranger Things.’
Well acted, the film takes things slowly but tension soon mounts, and ultimately leads to tragedy, and a very dark ending. I’m pleased the ending wasn’t a cop out, as this makes a refreshing change in this genre of movie.
More thriller than horror, it makes a change to watch something that’s obviously had a lot of thought and passion go into it. Well worth a watch.

This is what I would call an epic adventure through different worlds. Starting from page 1 you are thrown in, quite confused, into a new world. In this new world pretty much anything you believe or can dream up can show up. Step in a teenager who doesn't believe in magic and a little girl who believes with her whole heart and you have a book.
I enjoyed the world building and the fact that this was not like any book I had read before. The fantasy and characters were unique but there were a lot of them to keep track of.

The limited work of Enchantress
Don't know why it got slated
If you follow the comics or some of the games there is a lot of references to Escape from Arkham, admittedly some of the actors were for the sake of the name though taking it purely to the story it is close to the style of the graphic novels.
Rather than watching it expecting happy shiny marvel and the dark Justice League stories approach with an open mind. You will be pleasantly surprised

Dean (6927 KP) rated Deception (2008) in Movies
Apr 30, 2019
An very good cast, a good idea but a poor-ish execution only make this an ok thriller. I had high hopes for a lot more but the title alone really gives any idea of a twist away right from the start which was annoying. Hugh Jackman was very good in his role I thought and there are some appearances from Natasha Henstridge (Species, Ghost of Mars) and Maggie Q (Die Hard 4). However it is all too straight forward to work out if you have seen any decent thriller before. Ok for a look but nothing special, you might prefer Derailed instead.
