Nicole Hadley (380 KP) rated Ten Cents a Pound in Books
Jun 18, 2018
Ten Cents a Pound by Nhung N. Tran-Davies is a short, poetic, back-and-forth conversation between a mother and daughter. This is the story of a unnamed young girl whose mother is working hard so that her daughter may have a better life. It tells many stories within the pages that are filled with heart warming illustrations. It is the story of a mother's love, of hope, determination, a child's love and concern for her mother and for the giving of each, so that they may both be safe, and happy.
The book simultaneously draws attention to the difficulties of living with low wages, while optimistically looking forward to the opportunities and possibilities of the future due to education.
The lovely illustrations are both realistic and wistful, and while this story may require some additional explanations for young children, it paints a beautiful picture of determination and potential.
I received a ARC from Second Story Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I give this book 4/5 stars.

Beautiful Story
A dentist working the winter olympics falls in love with one of the athletes.
Acting: 10
Beginning: 2
Characters: 10
Cinematography/Visuals: 10
Conflict: 9
Entertainment Value: 8
Memorability: 6
Pace: 10
At just 82 minutes, the movie feels even shorter. It flows smoothly from scene to scene without ever feeling rushed. Director Jeremy Teicher does a phenomenal job of time-management and making you feel a connection in such a short amount of time.
Plot: 10
A part of what makes the story pop so well is how different they made the two main characters. They drive and move the story so smoothly because of their constant conflict. The concept is also very original as well.
Resolution: 8
Overall: 81
If you’re looking for a cute love story that’s not over-the-top sappy, Olympic Dreams is definitely the way to go. I didn’t enter the movie with very high expectations but I ended up absolutely loving it. Nick Kroll and Alexi Pappas are magic together.

Girl who has everything
I have played this game since it started & for the most part, love it! The story mode is great & I love the range of characters & the fact new characters are constantly joining. I feel like more emphasis needs to be put on story modes rather than limited events- I also feel that limited events are getting much harder & require more gems/money to get, which is 1 thing I always loved about the game was the limited financial input. I also am fed up with complaining (& seeing everyone else complain) that there is not enough land. I'm sure I've almost got more rides in storage than out & swapping them round is a nightmare to juggle space wise- especially now the lands have a requirement of what you need to put in. The new enchantments are overly complicated & while I like the idea behind it, they are a bit of a nuisance. I love the game as a concept & up until recently, would have scored this higher! Too many difficult timed events & the enchantment confusion have lowered this for me.

Gareth von Kallenbach (980 KP) rated Letters to Juliet (2010) in Movies

Sophie’s life is heading in a good direction. She is the best fact checker at the New Yorker, engaged to an up-and-coming chef and is headed on a romantic trip to Verona, the setting of Shakespeare’s most famous play, Romeo and Juliet. But when Sophie discovers a multi-decade old letter written to Juliet she finds herself on a new and exciting adventure in the spirit of true love.
The film hitches its wagon on rising star Amanda Seyfried as the leading lady, playing romantically-inclined heroine Sophie. Amanda plays opposite Christopher Egan as Charlie, a pessimistic and overly protective grandson of Claire, a romantic adventurer and ideal parental-figure, played by the ever-enchanting Vanessa Redgrave.
It was easy to expect that this would be the same old American twenty-something in love tale, but I was unexpectedly surprised by the depth and honesty in “Letters to Juliet”. While it is much more a love story than a comedy, the film tackles a number of the usual subjects –love, loss, and destiny– in new ways. Throughout the film are touching scenes that blend laughter and keen, realistic emotion, without the all too familiar awkward result.
And it is hard not to smile while watching “Letters to Juliet”. The infusion of a love story mixes well with the films other themes: the importance of family and the value of cross-cultural perspectives. These complex themes support the romantic story so well that the experience is less like a fantasy and more akin to a well-layered tale told by a close friend. Mix in the stunning landscape of Italy and “Letters to Juliet” becomes a magically honest story about the quest for true love.
Filled with quality acting, romance, and many kinds of love while speaking across generations and cultural viewpoints, “Letters to Juliet” manages to pull at the heartstrings and share an inspiring and uplifting tale.

Classic Kinsella
Kinsella is back with another light hearted, funny, wonderful novel. Something interesting is that Katie, the main character, is a little more down to earth and less crazy than the typical Kinsella heroine (whole I love just as much). This was a fun read. ?

Loved it as I love all Kay Hooper novels, however this one was a bit confusing for a while, trying to figure out who was working for whom, whose side they were on, and which side was the good guys. Ultimately another great Bishop story, can't wait for the next one!
