Tedious love triangle
After reading great reviews about this book, I was mildly disappointed given that much of this book surrounds two women having a relationship with the same man, and less so about mothers.
The main character, Nadia is fatally flawed; she's seen as slightly erratic and irresponsible having had a relationship with the pastor's son and having had an abortion at the age of 17. However, it also focuses on the fact that she is traumatised after her mother's sudden and horrific death, and the man she had a relationship with was far older and helped pay for her abortion - so she should be seen less at fault than suggested.
At the same time, her church-going best friend Aubrey is the total opposite, and yet she ends up almost in the same situation as Nadia. The three end up in a love triangle, and that's where I lose interest in this book. It begins with a great concept but loses steam.

If you didn't like the Last Jedi, I definitely don't recommend this book. This is a sort of introduction/slight backstory for Rose and her sister (whatever the chick's name is). I disliked Rose in the film, as I felt she served zero purpose, other than creating some lame love triangle. This book made me dislike her even more.
I don't blame the author, she had sh-- characters to deal with.

If you want to read this for Dare the Dom then I'm sorry your going to be disappointed, there isn't a dominating bone in his body. Saying that if you like M/M or M/F/M then this is maybe for you. I enjoyed the love triangle aspect and it appears you can have your cake and eat it. But what let this book down big time was Helen the stepdaughter. No, just No!

When I first read the synopsis for the book I had a different idea of what this book was going to be. Instead it surprised me by being different from the Selection. While I enjoyed Con and Bell I did not enjoy the long drawn out awkward romance with Shae. It felt like she was saying she loved him while not showing it.
All in all this was very different than what I was expecting but that made it into it's own story. Perfect for anyone who enjoys a love triangle that turns into true love.
Received an egalley from Netgalley.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2200 KP) rated Devil's Food Cake Murder (Hannah Swensen, #14) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Matthew Walters has agreed to take the pulpit of the local church in Lake Eden while Reverend Bob and Claire take their honeymoon. But they've just left town when Hannah finds him shot next to a piece of her Devil's Food Cake. For those who love the characters, they'll find another fun adventure. Those who are frustrated by the love triangle of think the series is too light will find nothing to change their minds here.

A comedy? Really? Nope not sure how some have put it in that category. It is a relationship drama, although light-hearted most of the time. A great cast, good script but the ending left me feeling "oh, is that it?" Not big on dramas most of the time. This does deal with complex issues about love, desire, happiness, relationships and these subjects are often discussed in the film. To sum it up it is a film about a complex love square, let alone triangle, started as two friends on holiday embark on a holiday romance or is it more than that?
