Magic and romance
This was on tv the other night so I thought i'd give it a try. It is a kids film so I thought it might be too young for me but I actually quite enjoyed it. It moved along swiftly and kept me gripped. There were good special effects and some "magic" that I hadn't seen in films before. There's also a romantic story as a sideline. All in all a good film.

Eh. I'm trying to be gentle, assuming that this must be a very early effort. The magic system simply didn't make sense to me. The entire society, in fact, seems nonsensical. A world in which magic reigns supreme, and the simplest devices (like wheels and levers) are regarded as diabolical? Nonsense. By the end, it felt like an intellectual exercise carried to an extreme. I can see using the conceit for a short story, but it just can't support a novel.

The start of an amazing series
In a world where magic and power go hand in hand, what happens when the balance is shifted? The detail of the world, it's magic and the rules that govern the citizens is fantastic and totally engrossing. So glad that there are now several series all tying in to this one so that you can keep on reading and losing yourself in an alternative world.

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated One is Come (Five in Circle, #1) in Books

I am looking forward to the next one in the series. [One is Come] by [C.H. MacLean] is a wonderful mix of magic, adventure and lore. The characters suffer from the typical teenage angst that is common everywhere and similar growing pains. The difference is the issue of puberty brings with it a secret that normal kids don't deal with.
The only people around the kids that can understand are their parents who have taken an oath not to speak of the magic. The conflicting powers fighting for control over the kids and their gift leads to more intrigue. I am still not sure who is good and who is bad, or even if there is a good or bad. Any book that has magic and dragons is always a good bet.
