"I feel performance cannot be done in isolation. So when I talk about teamwork, when I talk about timing between two actors, timing between two actors, I think about Laurel & Hardy. It’s like two sides of a coin. It’s the quickest examples of two people creating magic, two actors creating magic. I look up to these people [and] I get influenced by [them], because I try to create these things. I see others trying to create that thing, but nobody has succeeded yet. Laurel & Hardy [are] completely timeless. And anything in art which is timeless — it might be architecture, it might be paintings, whatever you do — [if] it’s great art, it will entertain the people all over the world for centuries and centuries."

Late Night at the Magic Shop
Eli is helping someone he thinks is going to be the only customer of the day at his magic shop when a middle schooler walks in looking for help for his school’s upcoming talent show. He wants a way to make his tuba disappear so he doesn’t have to play it. Will Eli be able to help him?

Okay, that’s a bit of a simplistic plot teaser for this short story, but the set up really is that simple. And, since it is very short (I read it in about 10 minutes), it works. There is much to enjoy here, and I smiled the entire way through. Simple and charming best describe this short story.

A good read for young adults and "grown up" adults. Easy to follow, strong female character, magic and mayhem. Wonderful visuals painted with words. (0 more)
The climax of the story takes a while to get to. This story has a slow build up, with spats of action peppered throughout. It is important to be patient with this novel. (0 more)
