Discworld Industrial Revolution #1
<2021 update>
I hadn't realised that this book had the first appearance(s) of Ponder Stibbons, Arch-Chancellor Mustrum Ridcully alongside that of Gaspode the Wonder Dog! (well, maybe I knew the latter)
<original review>
Book #10 in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, which (for my money) stands alongside Soul Music as one of his best works, perhaps because these are the two books it is easiest to catch the many allusions in!
This is the one where Discworld discovers the magic of the Motion Picture, culminating in a not-quite-right scene of a giant lady carrying a screaming ape up a tall building (Ankh-Morpork's Tower of Art in the Unseen University), and is also, perhaps, the only book where CMOT Dibbler is actually a major character rather than an extra.

The protagonist in this story would be Elsie, a girl, who can do a few magical spells. She is only beginning to learn how to do magic, with the help of a great witch Magenta. I really liked Elsie, she is smart but kind little witch, that is not afraid of adventures. I really liked all the characters chosen for the book, they are all different and interesting to read about. They all have their moods, that make them special and memorable.
The narrative of this novel was easy, adventurous and entertaining. This book is not very long, and it is filled with beautiful illustrations. The narrative is quite surprising, and it has interesting turns and unexpected surprises. I absolutely loved the magical larder, that makes any dish/food you wish for. (I need this in my life!!!

To say that I was nervous to watch this adaptation would be a huge understatement. I was concerned that Disney was going to attempt to remake the magic of the animated original, and the last thing I wanted to watch was that failed attempt.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there was no effort made to recreate the original in live action form. While the story remained primarily intact, the execution and performances were both great in their own rite without attempting to ride the coat tails of the original. All the while, Disney was actually able to pay tasteful homage to the original without doing so distastefully.
Nice little movie. Will Smith actually did very well as the genie, which he found a way to make completely separate and original from the Robin Williams adaptation.

The Genie of the disappointing live action reboot
Ok first off, I'm not saying the acting was awful but felt rugged, most of the casting choices seemed random, like picked out of a hat random & will smith as genie, although it he was entertaining, I couldn't look past his accent - having a genie with a street wise way of speaking after being Trapped for several lifetimes just couldn't be ignored (In my case that is).
The movie could've been a little more open to including previously used idea's, like talking animals...I mean it is only a movie after all an it would've helped recapture the magic.
Anyway, the overall outcome wasn't terrible just seemed to miss it's intended target, but I have seen worse.
