Helps young people deal with suicide
One of the best shows I’ve ever seen and one I’ll show my future children
This show teaches you it’s okay not to be okay. It shows you that life goes on, it shows you how to cope with grief, it enables people to be more sympathetic. This is one of the best, most touching shows I’ve ever seen. As someone with a parent who has tried to commit suicide what I don’t think the shows done has made people idealise suicide if anything it shows people the effects suicide causes.

This is my first read by Matt Haig. HOW TO STOP TIME is unique, deep, sometimes long-winded, sad, desperate and interesting. It has a past-present approach to story telling that worked very well.

The protagonist, Tom doesn’t age, at least not normally. He’s met Shakespeare, he’s loved but he’s lost so deeply and he remembers so much. This is a tale of such longing and of the inertia of existing for so long. It’s tragic, not particularly uplifting or depressing but it left me somewhat sad.

I particularly enjoyed the original storyline but I struggled occasionally with the pacing.

The audio narration, male single POV was very good.

"This came out right around the time that a new wave of Mexican filmmakers were making a splash on the global cinema market. It was a very exciting time, I think. And no film exemplifies that period to me more than Alfonso Cuarón’s beautifully intimate Y tu mamá también. It felt like he really captured Mexico, and the complexities of male friendship and intimacy. And those moments in our lives that change us forever. I just saw Roma at the Savannah Film Festival and was blown away. It feels like he’s come full circle. I see an artist really contemplating life, and it’s very inspiring."

"In which Peter Falk and John Cassavetes play two broken goons who bond, bicker, and ultimately level each other during one rough night in Philadelphia. May made this just a few years after The Heartbreak Kid—a perfect movie, and one that I hope Criterion can add to its catalog someday!—and while the two films couldn’t be more different in terms of tone, they both zero in on a kind of self-defeating, self-aggrandizing male psychology that’s a little too relatable at times. And Falk and Cassavetes are so remarkable here that you can’t help but wonder which two modern actors would play these roles today."

While I personally despise the label, I'm afraid that this book fits into the "chick-lit" category perfectly. Seriously, a book about a young woman's struggles with her nasty female boss who takes away her whole personal life in the name of fashion could hardly be something you'd see your macho male plumber reading, now could it? So yes, it's 100% pure, unadulterated "chick-lit", and anyone not looking for some fluffy, light reading material may close this review right now - I doubt you'll be interested in reading more. This movie does a lot of things well that many movies don't talk about. The characters talk about periods and female masturbation in a way that makes them seem normal (which they are). One female character is promiscuous but is never slut-shamed by her peers; they acknowledge that she does what she wants in a healthy way and that it doesn't make her a bad person. They are all friends in their twenties and tease each other in a light-hearted way. Another girl is a virgin (at an age that many see as too old to still be one) who is very inexperienced in general and instead of making her feel bad or like she's done something wrong they support her in becoming comfortable with her sexuality. The feeling of being judged and ignored based on your looks by a potential romantic partner is discussed from both the female and male perspective. And although a male character changes his entire appearance for a girl at the end, they tried to show that the way he used to look was more an effort to hide himself than just an expression of his personality. And, he never acted like he was friends with her in order to sleep with her - they were friends first and they both realized that maybe they would be good together.

Negatives: primarily that everyone is straight and white

great box set!
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

These stories are only short, 9 stories across 164 pages, but they are so delicious!

I can't say there was a stand out MOST favourite, because they are all really good. Very well written, in a variety of tenses, in the first and third, from lots of different characters. There is no connection between the stories, save the same author and they are lesbian erotica.

Some are really sweet, some more hard core. Some are just about the sex, and some have a more romantic feel to them.

I read them all, which for a box set, is unusual for me!

But there was one that stood out as my LEAST favourite. It's written from the main character's point of view in the first person. But when she talks about her partner, she uses YOU. So it's written using the second person. I find it a really difficult way to read a book, sorry! It doesn't affect my rating, but I felt the need to mention it, and you know I'm all about the feelings!

Apart from that one, they are all really good. I find myself wanting to read more by Ms Reston, something longer, with more pages to lose myself into!

Having had a run of male/male romances, this landed right in the queue at just the right time!

4 solid stars

This is my very first Sara Brookes novel and I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised by it. I was browsing NetGalley when this book stood out to me. I'm glad that I was accepted to read this book.

I will admit, mfm is one of my favorite genres on the more taboo side of romance. Unfortunately, not many authors know how to write the book where it is believable and sexy. Sara Brooks, seemed to find that medium where everything was good and a little more believable.

I loved the fact that this book took place over a long period of time. There was instant connection but not insta love which i really appreciated. The characters were fun to read though I would have liked a little more growth when it came to the main characters. For some reason though I know there was growth, I just feel like there should have been more.

I will admit that this book was a change up because it features two bisexual men and one woman. I'm not one for the male on male scenes so those were interesting to read even though they're not my cup of tea.

All in all, I enjoyed it. I liked the concept. Loved the fact that two of the characters were geeks and I will definitely add Sara Brookes to my "author to follow" list.

*If you didn't already catch it, I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
