Read this without looking at what it's about
I wasn't sure what to expect when I began reading this book, believing it would show a satirical version of marriage, however, This exceeded my expectations.

Following the story of Roy Jr and Celeste, after just a year and a half of marriage, Roy is falsely incarcerated for a rape and their bond begins to fall apart. It puts the lense on how the American justice system breaks down marriages in African American families, but it also looks at how conventional ties no longer apply.

Written in a letter format for the majority, it is a beautiful and harrowing drama of a husband and wife as they struggle to cope in these situations. Great read.

This story is complicated. It deals with many moral issues. Families, marriage, strength and weakness. This is a great story coming out just in time for you to toss in your tote bag or beach bag. Just do it!

This is one of my favorite childhood games. The game is mostly based on luck and what number you spin, but real life is pretty based on luck too sometimes. Great game for kids of all ages

Set in a time not too far away, this is a dark and rather creepy tale that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Would you 'upgrade' your marriage if it meant getting preferential treatment ... the best jobs, the best houses, better health care, education, etc., etc., etc.? But then what if that meant artificial intelligence was listening in to snap shots of your conversations and then analysing them to make sure you are keeping to the terms of your marriage? And if not, a scale of interventions would be put into action. Would you still do it? Well, The Marriage Act will probably make you think again!

Mr Marrs certainly gets you thinking and poses really interesting questions and dilemmas in this well plotted, perfectly paced book told from the viewpoints of his well created characters and with some great twists and turns.

Thoroughly enjoyable and quite an unsettling book that actually doesn't feel that far from becoming a reality! How many have an Alexa, Siri or similar digital voice assistant in the home or on your wrist that just sits there? I'm not a conspiracy theorist, however I imagine it wouldn't take much for a law to be passed in the name of improving the economy or society in some way, then a switch is flicked and the process would start ... definitely not beyond the realms of reality and very scary!

This is the second of Mr Marrs' books I have enjoyed and I will definitely read more in the future and thanks must go to Pan Macmillan, Macmillan and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of The Marriage Act.

"As in the Max Ophuls film, Lean also deals with romantic love outside of marriage and intelligently understands that these relationships were sad and not meant to be. But with the end of marriage as anything more than a foolish, outdated formality that no one takes seriously anymore, the romantic film has logically disappeared, and there have been no great romantic leading roles for women ever since. The vulnerable, sympathetic character Katharine Hepburn so beautifully plays would be now considered some kind of neurotic nutcase, but I think it’s her best performance and it’s David Lean’s best film. He specialized in this genre of marital infidelity in films such as Brief Encounter and Passionate Friends, and when he gave it up for his outdoor spectacles, I don’t think he was ever as good again."

"The character of Dorothea Brooke, a gifted woman whose gifts are thwarted by the possibilities available to her, yet who flourishes despite it because of the greatness of her character, the depiction of a woman of passion and intelligence, the tracing of disillusionment in love and marriage—Middlemarch accomplishes all this while creating a vivid world of politics, community, and landscape."

Creepy And Unforgettable
Alice and Jake have recently married and appear to have a perfect life together. Determined to keep their marriage alive, they join an exclusive group known only as The Pact.

The Pact is a group that helps to guide and support it’s members to achieve and maintain blissful wedded harmony. At first, everything seems great, with importance attached to those little things such as giving your partner regular gifts, making time for each other, answering their calls straight away and having regular holidays together. All great and perfectly reasonable until that is, you forget or omit one of the rules. If you break the rules there are serious consequences. The greatest rule of them all is that no one else must ever know about the Pact. All is well until one of them does indeed break the rules, and then their lives become a horrendous nightmare.

This is an unusual and original look at marriage and what we are willing to do to keep up appearances and I know that I read something very different in THE MARRIAGE PACT to what I had been expecting. There was a sense of apprehension in the synopsis, but Michelle Richmond definitely took me by surprise with this novel. It is psychologically deeply twisted and evil but not quite believable. As different characters were introduced it was difficult to know who was trustworthy, although I think this was the author’s intention. Referring to each other as "Friend" within the Pact adds a brilliant touch to help arouse suspicion. The novel has a fast pace that only adds to the thrill of the story.

Creepy and unforgettable, THE MARRIAGE PACT by Michelle Richmond is definitely a book to be recommended and one which will stay with me for a long time.

Tragic story of Irish communities
This book had a lot of similarities with Philomena. It's hugely tragic, about a woman who has been in an asylum for 80 years after being out there by malicious priests and community leaders, annulling her marriage and taking away her baby. While at times it seems improbable, the story of her psychiatrist trying to uncover her story is beautiful.
