Dianne Hinojosa (4 KP) rated Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) in Movies
Sep 13, 2018
Quote worthy and repeatable
This is a great movie for the whole family. Not only are there wonderful visual effects that entertain the younger watcher, there is the witty, quotable one liners for the more mature. The characters and their relationships with each other are believable on both sides of the Jumanji story. My favorite is Sheldon Oberon played by Jack Black. He played a fantastic teenage girl obsessed with herself. I can't count how often we have watched movie and enjoy it every time. I find that when my husband and I are quoting a movie scene for scene, it means we really like it.
Danielle Chaplin (81 KP) rated Goddess of Legend in Books

Inspiring
This was the 2nd book that I read in the Goddess series and it was just as good as the first one I read. I love how strong and thought out the female characters are, how they tend to be more mature women that are still finding themselves rather than the clichéd teen dramas, and the attention to detail that Cast puts into the world building.
This is a retelling of a sorts of the Legend of King Arthur and is simply brilliant. If you enjoy retellings of fairytales and myths then you really must read this series, please note that it isn't for younger readers as it has explicit content.

Millie (22 KP) rated Rebecca Powder And The Werewolves Of Stone County (Book #2 Born To Be Mine) in Books
Jan 27, 2020
This was a very quick, easy-to-read story that crossed over a lot of different genres. Not to be taken seriously as the author has mentioned, it's still enjoyabale. I feel like Jade Cooper has a lot of potential with her storytelling; however, there were a lot of grammar errors in the copy I was given. I also saw elements of fanfiction (which isn't surprising given that it features werewolves and vampires with some erotica mixed in.) I would recommend this to mature adults who need a fast novella to get out of a reading slump.
*Although I did receive this book for free through Goodreads First Reads, all of my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lee KM Pallatina (951 KP) rated Pokémon: The First Movie - Mewtwo Strikes Back (1998) in Movies
Feb 28, 2020
Gotta catch em all
Released back in 1998 following it's extremely successful t.v. series, pokemon: the first movie (Mewtwo strikes back) sees main characters Ash, Pikachu, Brock & Misty receive an invitation from a mysterious Host, with the destination point being the middle of the ocean.
Upon arriving, things quickly become clear that nothing is quite as it seems & that genetically engineered pokemon known as Mewtwo is in control & will stop at nothing to rule the world without humans.
This is a very mature movie which is incredible considering that its based on a rather friendly children's tv show.
An emotionally caring plot, that can still leave you teary eyed today.

You get what you expect
I was intrigued to see what Mel Gibson was up to these days. And I pretty much got what I expected. This is a pretty much by the numbers action flick. You get all the cliches: Gibson's grizzled old vet, a mature cop with secrets, and the green rookie. They also throw in the stereotypic Latin gang and Bosworth's very generic doctor. It all flows as you'd expect with an ending a blind man can see a mile away. Set the bar low and wasn't disappointed. Just got some actiony cheese to fill some time. Just really hoping the talent in this movie raises the bar in their projects heading forward.

Cori June (3033 KP) rated Trickster's Girl (The Raven Duet #1) in Books
Aug 18, 2020 (Updated Aug 18, 2020)
A good story about a teen who recently lost her dad and copes with her grief by joining Raven the trickster of the NW US and Canada. They go on an journey to heal the lay lines of the world in the far near future.
I'd recommend it for kids that are wanting something YA but aren't ready for the mature sex and violence that is typical for most YA whose protagonist is 15 or older. Not that there isn't some hard discussions or danger. Mostly the biggest thing about it is the MC likes to think and sometimes talk in exclamations! It gets a bit tiring accurate or not.
