Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2204 KP) rated Caught in a Bind in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Merry Kramer's co-worker is having a rough week. First, her husband vanishes. Then he's accused of stealing money from his work. Finally, a dead body shows up in her garage. Can Merry figure out what is going on? I love these characters, and the book drew me in even on a reread. However, I found the sub-plot about spousal abuse often became preachy and slowed down the book.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2204 KP) rated The Albuquerque Turkey in Books

Conman Radar Hoverlander isn't sure if he can trust his dad, who has walked into his life after over 20 years and saying he desperately needs money to pay off a man in Vegas. Once again, this is a wild ride that seems a bit too complicated and leaves the reader in a dark a bit much in the name of twists. Still, it was a fun ride

Tim Stubbs (9 KP) rated Okja (2017) in Movies

An alright fantasy film with a serious message.
A lovingly told story with that theme that seems to run through most stories - Good vs. Evil. It's not really an anti- meat eater film but more focusses on how consumerism has made the breeding of animals money orientated. Greed then subverts compassion. Great stints put in by Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhall and Paul Dano.

Book works paradise
I love using Goodreads to keep track of all the different books I read. It is my favorite app, not just for setting and tracking goals, but for finding new authors, discovering new genres, and figuring out where a series starts. It has saved me hours and money by telling me in what order a series goes, as well as little inbetween stories to read. I love how simple and user friendly it is, and that you can sync it with your kindle
AT (1676 KP) rated Google Opinion Rewards in Apps

Google Opinion Rewards is a great app that sends you random survey questions. You get awarded in Google Play credits. You won't get bombarded with survey opportunities, but the credits do add up fairly fast, even at small amounts. It works! I use the credits for Google Play purchases and in-game purchases often. The survey questions are very quick to answer, and it's so easy to use. You won't get Google Play credit rich, but hey! For a few random questions here and there, you'll get free Google Play money!
Mike (8 KP) rated Neverwhere in Books
Oct 10, 2018
I first read Neverwhere a long time ago, it was an excellent book then, and it still is. Neil Gaiman has an excellent way of describing the scenes and characters, and the story is gripping in a way that makes you not want to stop reading. This new edition, beautifully illustrated by Chris Riddell is wonderful, he draws from Neil's descriptions the characters as I imagine them, and, using the "author's preferred text" and additional material make it well worth the money. Buy this book, it is a beauty to behold, and wonderful to read.

Meh
I caved and watched the remake. I regret it. Thre acting and cinematography were fine. The story was just ok. They changed enough ti make it slightly different and added some stuff that was unnecessary for the storyline. Sad part is, this could've been a whole different movie with those added parts. There was potential to have created something new. Instead, they tried to rehash a classic horror film to make money on. The original was great and should've been left alone. Overall, this one is not worth a watch.
James Koppert (2698 KP) rated Atlantics (2019) in Movies

African supernatural love thriller
This is the first film I have seen from Senegal. It follows a girl who is in love but forced to marry into money, but love diesnt let go not even in death.
It is a slow burning artistic film and the paranormal aspect is almost a side project rather than the focus of the films which makes it even more interesting. This is a strange wonderful film and deserved of its cannes award
