Relateable characters
Absolutely gorgeous illistrations
No matter your age this book will affect you in some way.
A Monster Calls is one of those books that really stuck with me after reading it and I can really see it sticking with me for years to come because at its bare bones it is a book about grief and just how unfair life can seem to be.
I will admit that this book did make me cry like a freaking baby even though I was reading it on the train on the way home from work, and the thing was that it wasn't really the ending( I pretty much figured where the story was going from the beginning) but it was that it brought up so many not only memories but the feelings I went through under a similar event.
Even though this book is listed as a children's book it really is a book for a person of any age.

A fun but flawed monster movie, that (thankfully) never takes itself seriously.
The Meg is silly. Very very silly.
It's verging on so silly that at some point, you just accept what's happening and go along with the ride.
Jason Statham absolutely carries this film. As per usual, he is extremely likable, and carries a terrible script to satisfying degree.
The rest of the human cast are mostly dull , even the usually loveable Rainn Wilson seems like he's phoning it in at times.
The jump scares are predictable, resulting in a tame experience (unless you happen to have a fear of sharks of course), and the CGI is very questionable at times.
The main saving grace for The Meg is that it knows what it is, and never takes itself seriously, at times, even pointing out convenient plot points and making light of them, and it just about gets away with it. Just.
Best line - "That fossil ate my friend!"

This is one of those films where the trailers were better than the end product. Honestly, I barely remember G14, only that the title character doesn't show up until the end. At least Skull Island had some good Kong kicking ass moments and Tom Hiddleston in a tight shirt.
The main characters are uninteresting, basically, we've got Coach, that kid from Stranger Things, and the chick that's a relative of that American Horror Story actress. The movie did not make me care about them at all, I would have been fine with them all biting the dust. There's a little more about Monarch, but seriously, Thomas Middleditch was annoying.
Basically, I was there for Godzilla, and all the other monsters fighting. There wasn't enough of it, as far as I'm concerned. I guess it was worth seeing the action on the big screen. I'm vaguely interested to see Godzilla vs Kong (plz let Toby Kebbell do the mo-cap again).

Stranger things this aint
Stranger Things is great and its brought a resurgence of the 80s style kids adventure films. Unfortunately for every Stranger Things & Scouts Guide to the apocalypse theres also one of these disasters...starts abruptly in space where the space station is attacked by a massive spaceship. Then it starts to introduce the stereotypical kids who all end up going to the same summer camp just as aliens attack Earth. The script is shoddy and the acting is pretty poor. It feels like a poor after school daytime TV movie - the fate of the Earth lies in these 4 kids hands blah blah. The aliens are pretty generic and unscary and it all leads to a pointless climax and ridiculous credits scenes. I was hoping for some mindless fun - i got half!!!

What-time-d'you-call-this-then late-arriving sequel to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 love letter to Japanese tokusatsu movies. A new generation of giant robot pilots must stop a new attempt to wipe out the human race using giant monsters.
The plot is fairly forgettable and possibly incoherent, as is most of the acting (though Scott Eastwood makes something of an impression in an underwritten part), but you go to this kind of film to see enormous robots and kaiju smacking each other about the head with bits of skyscraper, and this movie delivers that in spades. Possibly the first western movie to capture the real spirit of Japanese monster movies, and that makes up for a lot. The world-building isn't as interesting as in the first one, but it retains a few compellingly weird touches. Pure popcorn entertainment, but made with real energy and actually quite charming in a puppyish way.

I KILL GIANTS is a movie I'd never heard of before until I stumbled across it on Netflix. Based on a graphic novel, I Kill Giants tells the story of Barbara, a young teen who lives with her older sister and brother. Barbara doesn't really have any friends, is bullied at school, is thought of as weird by everyone and is currently seeing the school psychologist (when she can be bothered). She also sets traps and bait in order to catch and kill giants, researching the different types of giants and preparing herself for when the time comes that she must protect the town from a really big one. If you've seen A MONSTER CALLS then this movie treads very similar ground to that and is also similar in style. I wasn't quite as emotional at the end of this movie as I was at the end of that one, but I did find it just as enjoyable

Great Show
I really enjoyed this show. Its a lot different from the things I normally watch, but thats part of its charm.
I liked how the show has a lot going on, but not in a way that feels to overwhelming. Each new piece flows nicely into the others without it being confusing.
The characters were great. A group of misfit kids taking on a monster and the government at the same time is pretty impressive. They added a fun side to the show that kept it from being to serious.
The only complaint I have is how slow the show starts of. The first 2 episodes are a little boring. Its great when things pick up, but I think a lot of viewers will drop the show before it gets to that point. If you are watching it for the first time you really need to watch at least 3 episodes before you make a judgment. Otherwise you will be missing out.

This was really a mixed bag of stories. Some were great, some were meh, and some were boring AF. This book is a collection of stories from other, very minor characters during A New Hope.
By far, the beginning of the book is the strongest. One of my favorites was the story of the guy that didn't shoot down the 'empty' pod. It reminded me of Spaced.
The meh and boring stories were really unnecessary. Have you ever wanted to know about an illicit affair occurring between a Stormtrooper and an Officer, passing messages between each other via a mouse droid? That's going to be a no from me, dawg. Have you ever wanted to know the story behind the trash monster? ME NEITHER.
It ended strong, I liked the rebel alliance stories. One of my other favorites was told from Biggs' perspective, and I've always loved Biggs.
Overall, an ok mix of stories.

Creatures from the Black... Meteor!

A meteor comes crashing down to Earth one night... and it's inhabitants are a little bitey! Two campers witness the crash and soon enough fall victim to the sharp-toothed monsters, who then set their sights on a small town. After 2 grizzly murders, the monsters move onto another House. But these residents (one being a kid obsessed with Horror and Monster Movies) are willing to put up more of a fight against these creatures.
I really like The Deadly Spawn. It gets a lot of negative reviews and I have no idea why; it's actually very good... I've definitely seen a lot worse! It is quite tongue in cheek (which honestly makes it fun and terrifying at the same time) but comes with some very decent gore and the creatures look really good as well... pretty realistic! I enjoy it every single time I dig it out and give it a watch... one for the Creature Feature fans!
