Is there a better example of a film that's so shit but so great at the same time than Anaconda? I would argue that there is not. Something bad about Anaconda - Ice Cube making "your mum" jokes. Something good about Anaconda - Ice Cube making "your mum" jokes. Something bad - Jon Voights dodgy Paraguay accent. Something good - Jon Voights dodgy Paraguay accent...you see where I'm going with this. Everything that makes this movie shit also adds to its weird brand of 90s monster movie charm, right down to the snakes facial expressions sometimes being disturbingly human. I'm also a fan of how Johnathan Hydes character goes from being the token pampered rich dude who is uncomfortable in a jungle/safari setting and has a silly amount of suitcases (there's always one of those fuckers in these kind of films) to the only one who I wanted to survive. Character growth right there.
God bless Anaconda for being so entertainingly shite 🖤

I am becoming a fan of historical fiction and this book has only cemented that opinion.

Leah and Magda grew up as best friends but their friendship is put to the ultimate test when the monster that was Hitler came to power and everything changed.

The story is told from both Leah's and Magda's perspectives; Leah's from her memories and Magda's in letter form. I have to admit that I preferred Leah's story as Magda's was a little repetitive and 'wordy' however it did show how easy it was for people to be brainwashed and to take a path in their lives that has far reaching and devastating consequences for them and those they love.

The Children of Berlin is a gripping and powerful story of love, loss, bravery and forgiveness and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to those who enjoy this genre and many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of this book.

King Kong (2005)
King Kong (2005)
2005 | Action
Audacious film-maker attempts to mount spectacular entertainment featuring giant ape, finds he's bitten off more than he can chew - handily, this covers both the plot of King Kong and the movie itself. The equivalent of one of those bloated Harry Potter books written when JK Rowling was so successful no-one was brave enough to say 'this needs an edit': movie is exhaustingly long with a lot of dead wood in every department.

Main problem is that Jackson and his co-writers seem to think they are making Titanic rather than a pulp monster movie: this film takes itself very, very seriously considering the subject matter; sorely needs a sense of humour. Only really comes to life in the big set-piece CGI sequences, most of which are original to this film - Jackson is obviously having fun during the sauropod stampede and the bit with the giant man-eating crabs, not so much the rest of the time. Technically superior in every department to the 1976 version, but still less entertaining somehow.
