Ushering in what they hope will be a bold new era in 3D movie making, Dreamworks has set a very high standard with “Monsters Vs Aliens”. By combining science fiction and monster films, pop culture references, a strong cast, and cutting edge 3D technology, the film is likely to score big with audiences of all ages.

The story involves a bride to be named Susan (Reese Witherspoon), who is struck by a meteor shortly before her nuptials to local anchorman Derek (Paul Rudd). Before she can say “I do” Susan has an amazing growth spurt that soon has her towering over the church and eventually captured and subdued by a cadre of soldiers.

Susan is targeted as a monster by the government and awakens in a strange cell with fellow detainees B.O.B. (Seth Rogan), The Missing Link (Will Arnett), Dr. Cockroach PHD (Hugh Laurie), and Insectasaurus. While shocked and horrified to be in the company of monsters, Susan remains focused on getting back to normal and marrying Derek.

At the same time, an alien probe has arrived on earth and after a first contact effort by President Hathaway (Stephen Colbert), goes very wrong, the military soon realizes they are overmatched, requiring drastic efforts to save the planet.Enter General W.R. Monger, (Kiefer Sutherland), who reveals his captive monsters to the President and his staff with the idea that the only way to save the earth is to turn the monsters loose on the alien threat.

With a promise of freedom, the monsters and Susan (now dubbed Ginormica) seek to save San Francisco from the aliens. However, a greater threat is facing the earth from the alien Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson), who has designs on Earth and the power Susan possesses, and will stop at nothing to get it. What ensues is a funny adventure that thanks to the stunning 3D visuals is one of the more enjoyable family films in years.

The amazing 3D effects truly allow for the audience to become immersed in the film rather than just occasionally entertained with a few simple gimmicks. The film has plenty to offer children, but parents should note that the film is PG rated due to some clever quips designed for older viewers. The nearly two hour film moves at a brisk pace, ensuring the monsters do not outstay their welcome, but it may still be a bit long for very young viewers. There are dimensions of the characters that I hope get expanded upon in future films, but I do understand that with such lavish visuals, action, not so much character development, takes centerstage, and the film certainly delivers adventure in spades.

The animation is first rate, as is the great ensemble cast, all of which combine to make “Monsters Vs Aliens” a fun viewing experience for the entire family, and a grand new direction for animation. While viewers wishing to see the film in 3D can expect to pay a higher ticket price, I strongly recommend the 3D version to truly enjoy the film and the breathtaking achievements in animation..

Monsters vs Monsters... Epic
After the sour taste the last big screen adaptation left in my mouth I wasn’t overly enthusiastic for this one. I mean hyping your entire movie around Bryan Cranston to just kill him in the first 20 minutes leaving second best Quicksilver to hold the movie up was just Mental.

BUT this movie did promise one thing, more Kaiju more Godzilla instead of the pitiful 10 minutes screen time on our last outing. boy did it deliver of the Kaiju battles in spades.

That’s all I wanted was to see Godzilla battle it out with Mothra, Ghiadora and whoever else, just take me back to my childhood and give me epic scale monster fights. I felt this movie delivered that unapologetically so it’s a win.

Also I kinda love seeing Kyle Chandler in things.

The story surrounding Of Monsters and Men reaches from the band’s native Iceland to a radio station in Philadelphia (“Radio 104.5”) that began playing their song Little Talks, and subsequently to a showcase in Austin at South by Southwest and a swift signing to Republic Records. Their 3rd release FEVER DREAM is out later this month, but you can preview one of the songs right now.

On their new single Alligator, the groove marries a deep quarter-note rock tumble with a choppy backbeat, which sets the sonic stage perfectly for a signature sultry-shout vocal delivery from Nanna Hilmarsdóttir. The energy is high, the night is young, and we offer ourselves to the rapture. Of Monsters and Men has bottled up the energy it takes to be truly free, and now it can be yours.

Cody and his 2 friends Stevie and Brad, are ghost hunters not really having much to investigate, until a mysterious new artist displays his art at the museum of monsters that have been seen around the area over the years. Only now very peculiar things are happening which seem to point to some of the monsters being more than a myth!

A very well written descriptive story. You know where you are with this book no wondering what this that or the other is, as they are described in the book which really comes in handy when your not sure what something is. The close friendship between the friends is fantastic we all need close friends like that and are extremely lucky if we have them. An exciting captivating mystery that can be read again and again.

A fun pair of stories set with the Ninth Doctor, Rose and Jack. The first may be the best Slitheen story told to date, and that's saying something about the reviled monsters from Raxacoricofallapatorius. The second has some nice moments with a future Micky not wanting to deal with No. 9, in a misfire about Rose gaining superpowers. For our full review... http://travelingthevortex.com/?p=8201

While I enjoyed it, the first character we meet is the POV for half the book. Just as I really got invested, he gets left behind for many chapters to introduce a new character, and doesnt show up again until near the end. The sudden jump/abandoning of the first lead really affected my interest.

This is a brilliant read. Packed full of monsters like Frankenstein, Vampires and Bigfoot, it starts by giving a history as to where the myth or story of the creatures came from. It then continues with a modern day science look at them and explains whether or not they could exist or survive in the real world.

A fantastic read for any budding ghost buster.

I must have been one of a handful of people who thought this War/horror/fantasy film although having a good story and typical Del torro fare was just very good and doesn't make it as far as being a great film.
Inventive monsters make this one stand out somewhat, however I felt the pacing was a little off, a very magical effort nonetheless.

I had to watch this movie twice to make sure I read not missing something. It has a lot of twists and turns but in the end you are left with questions. I hope there is a prequel and a sequel.....I feel it would take both to answer all my questions.

"This is a continuing theme, because it’s the same lead actor [Humphrey Bogart]. For me, this is the best love story ever, ever, ever shot. You could make an exciting, complicated, hot, sexy relationship between a pot-bellied alcoholic and a dried up, skinny spinster… Well, what it really tells you about is Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn, and what f—ing monsters they were."
