I'll admit I was not impressed for the first tenth of this book and then it became excellent.
There are so many fascinating questions to be asked about what constitutes life in this book.
I kinda felt the plot twist coming. But the scenes with these two characters were chilling. It felt like a lump of something nasty in my stomach.
This book was lovely and moving.

"I always grew up loving Life Is Beautiful. It was one of my dad’s favorite movies, and the story is just so moving. You know, the ultimate sacrifice that a parent makes for their kid is just… I mean, the fear that must have gone along with it, but that will to overcome it for the sake of your child is just gut-wrenching."

"That parade scene. The parade scene — I celebrate it. But also it, like, tears me up a little bit. It is just such a joyful… I can’t even imagine what it would have been like to shoot that. It was really wonderful. I saw it as a young person, but then, eventually, moving to Chicago it was pretty great. I felt some ownership to it."
