Lovely film about a gifted child whose genius mother committed suicide and who is now being raised by her uncle. He is trying to give her a normal childhood but this is then challenged in court by her grandmother who wants to gain custody and make the child an academic. What follows is an emotional tale, with the uncle questioning his ability to bring up the child and wanting to do the right thing for her. Brilliantly acted throughout. Moving and thought-provoking.

OMG, what an amazing story, I was up reading long into the night. This is a heart breaking, moving and powerful story. The characters were so well written, they had intense chemistry but also so much more. This book will have you laughing and crying all the way through, definitely an emotional roller coaster of a ride. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

Artificial Intelligence Personality Turing Hopper is excited to finally have a clue to the location of a criminal she needs to track down. However, her PI friend Tim gets accused of a murder when he goes to investigate. The characters are still very real, both human and AIP, and the plot is fast moving. Just read the series in order.

Olive Dunwoody and her parents have moved into a new house, but soon Olive begins to suspect that something out of the ordinary is happening. In fact, she's pretty sure the pictures are moving. What's going on? I wasn't prepared for a supernatural book when I picked it up, but I still enjoyed this story aimed at tweens.

Wiki Coffin and the American Exploration Expedition have reached the southern tip of South America, where they get involved in a case where a man was sold a ship, but then it was stolen from him. Then a dead body turns up. This book seemed to be slow moving, but many of the random events played a part in the climax.

A very lovely coming of age story, centering on Dottie, a child of divorced parents. The story is told in a series of nearly 100 vignettes, each of which is filled with wit and vulnerability. During the course of the novel, Dottie struggles with moving, poverty, an alcoholic stepfather, questioning her sexuality, race relations, playing sports, and her relationship with her mother, half-brother, and stepsister. Her character exhibits amazing grace and presence of mind as she continually questions the world around her.

Despite having an intriguing premise involving re-incarnation, I have to say: I found this book to be quite heavy going, and not so much slow going as moving at a glacial pace.

While it did show flashes of promise, I felt that it never really took off at all or really grabbed my attention: indeed, at times it felt like a chore to be reading it (as a matter of principle, if I start a book I finish it).

Not impressed. :(

Revenge (Roman Arena, #4)

The fourth (of five) entries in Simon Scarrow's 'Arena' e-book exclusive series, this one starts with both Macro and Pavo being forced to participate in a beast fight in the Roman Arena

Unlike the previous entries (most of which followed the same format, ending with a gladiatorial bout), the majority of this one is set in and around the circus itself, and also ends with Pavo moving closer to his ultimate goal of gaining revenge for the death of his father.
