Good to see some Wonder Woman stories coming out now!
Fast paced, exciting YA
Ok, I'll admit I was surprised at how much I liked this. I thought it would be a re-hash of the recent film (which I really enjoyed), but it's a whole new story - a prequel, I suppose.
Diana sneaks away from Themiscara with a girl that she has saved from a boating accident. The girls presence on the island starts a chain of natural disasters, so Diana helps her to leave with help from the Oracle, who also lets her into some very interesting information about the girl.
A very exciting, fast moving story.

[The Big Burn] by [Jeanette Ingold] is an excellently written historical fiction that deals with an interesting topic. The plot is focused around three young people: Elizabeth, a homesteader with her sister, Jarret, a fire fighter, and Seth, and African American soldier. The even that brings them all together is the forest fires of 1910 in Idaho and Montana know as the Big Burn.
[Ingold] tells a fast moving tale through the various perspectives of those involved. The fact that she chose very different characters but remained historically accurate says a lot about the skill of the author. This book is a welcome addition to any classroom library, especially for those reluctant readers.

Natalie (23 KP) rated The Walking Dead in TV

One of the best shows on TV in recent years
An apocalyptic drama that finally ticks all the right boxes. The 'zombies' (walkers, lamebrains, whatever you want to call them) are realistically frightening (not either dragging their heels or moving at super-human speed), already achieving what so many in the genre fail to do - a terror we can actually relate to. Enhanced further by (generally) realistic post-apocalyptic situations and dilemmas, the drama is able to develop characters with ferocious intensity.
This show keeps me on the edge of my seat and has me genuinely invested in its key players. There's nothing out there quite like it - it's a uniquely brilliant experience.

Visionary
The Downward Spiral is one of the last great works of art produced in the 20th century.
Moving beyond the abrasive noise of the Broken/Fixed era while making callbacks to the dark pop music of Pretty Hate Machine and showcasing the ambient music that would eventually win Trent Reznor an Oscar; standout tracks on the The Downward Spiral are as varied as the scorching Mr Self-Destruct, the groove of Heresy and Closer or the celestial beauty of A Warm Place and the title track.
The album also features an ambition and aesthetic that still informs Nine Inch Nails over twenty years later.

'Tender and tragic, set against the turbulent backdrop of wartime Britain'
This is my absolute favourite book, so I'm likely to be biased. The characters feel like real people, and their experiences and thoughts feel as palpable as your own. Let this book sweep you through love and heartbreak, enveloped by war-torn 40s London. The unusual plot layout of this book (moving backwards through time, starting at the end and finishing at the start) may be confusing at the first read, but provides dramatic irony which is integral to the book's brilliance.

For me, this episode in the Shadows of the Apt series was a real struggle. From a fairly slow, crawl of an opening it barely got moving until the last hundred pages or so. This book is key to the overall series but it really felt like a chore reading it. Che's character development in this book installs her as one of the most important characters in the series, and her link to the new Empress sets up a lot of the conflict to come, but it just felt so dragged out.
A must-read if one is to appreciate the whole series but from a fairly first 4 books this was a definite low.

A moving life story
It's impressive that this book can fit virtually an entire life story into such a short book. And for the most part it's a really interesting story. Lucy is an endearing character although she is a little odd and strange at times. I feel like some of her actions don't make sense and I found myself getting very frustrated at how her mother treated her and how she reacted to it, like it didn't make any sense. But I do admit that this could just be part of the message of the story itself.
Overally it's a well written book with a lovely story, it's just a shame that not much really happens.

I was so looking forward to this book, and almost bought it. But, the library had it, so I just rented it. THANK GOD I did.
I really, really, REALLY disliked this book until the last 90 pages or so. It was so slow moving, and this book isn't even that long! The chapters jump between multiple characters, all of whom are claiming this miraculous child that was seemingly dead. I thought it was fairly clear from the beginning that the reason the focus was on these families was because all of the events were related.
I loved Bellman and Black, hated the Thirteenth Tale, and mostly disliked this book. I'm wary to read another Setterfield book now.

Wesley and Quinn have a love to hate relationship. She blames him for her parents divorce and spends the entire book trying to get even. Cool premise, but it falls a bit flat for me.
the cover shows a food truck, but that doesn't show up until like 3/4 of the way through so I am not quite sure why it's the cover? In fact the whole cover is quite deceptive as to what is actually in the book. But moving on.
While I enjoy a good hate to love story this was just meh, the character of Quinn was naive, dumb, and easy to peg. I just couldn't get into it.

this is the second time I've read the book and it is still as good the second time. really enjoyed this book. a different story with a twist in the story. the connection between the two main characters is fantastic as well as the supporting characters, making this book romantic and funny. this book has some very hot steamy bits to it but they are not over done. a fantastic page turner and easy book to read. the story is fast paced moving from romantic and funny to misfortune very quickly. have the second book waiting as you will need to start it straight away. highly recommended.
