Blazing Minds (92 KP) rated Hangman (2017) in Movies
Nov 1, 2021 (Updated Nov 3, 2021)
So from the sound of Hangman starring Al Pacino and Karl Urban sounded great when I first read the synopsis for the movie, a decorated homicide detective Ray Archer (Al Pacino) partners with criminal profiler Will Ruiney (Karl Urban) to catch one of the city’s notoriously vicious serial killers, who is playing a twisted version of murder inspired by the children’s game Hangman. Every 24 hours, a body is hung revealing the next letter carved into the victim’s body.

Watched yesterday my second murder mystery movie of the month after see how they run not as good as that one but there was plenty to laugh at start to finish especially the running gag over Christian bales glass Eye plenty of good performances all around from the cast even an appearance from taylor swift only in at the beginning of the movie sets the plot up. Would I recommend the film yes

David McK (3576 KP) rated Monk - Season 1 in TV
Dec 15, 2024
I only started watching this in 2024, when I was looking for something to scratch that 'Elementary', 'The Mentalist', 'Ludwig' itch.
This came before all of the above - indeed, it is easy to see many similarities in them all with, here, the ex-cop Monk afflicted with a severe case of OCD (made worse following the off-screen death of his wife, before the series began) but still able to solve many murder mysteries due to his powers of observation.

David McK (3576 KP) rated The Fugitive (1993) in Movies
Aug 3, 2024
It wasn't me! it was the one-armed man!!
1993 thriller, based on a 1960 TV series of the same name, in which an on-form Harrison Ford plays the part of Dr Richard Kimble, on the run after being framed for the murder of his wife and sentenced to death, relentlessly pursued by Tommy Lee Jones US Marshal detective Samuel Gerard.
Full of great lines and scenes, with both actors at the top of their game, and riveting throughout.

David McK (3576 KP) rated Murder Mystery 2 (2023) in Movies

Follow up to 2019s 'Murder Mystery's, with this one seemingly just slipping in with not much in the way of publicity.
It's also a bit of a misnomer this time around - it should really be called 'Kidnap Mystery's - with the Spitzes (who have now quite their jobs and set up a detective agency) caught up in investigating the kidnapping from their own wedding of a returning figure from the 1st movie.
Which, if you've seen, you know what to expect from this.

Lindsay (1774 KP) rated Twelve to Murder in Books
Sep 8, 2017
Twelve to Murder is plotted well. What could make it any more interesting? There a mastermind or is it an ill person to wants a two people dead. Is someone framing Lenny or is it just a ploy to have everyone to look elsewhere.
There are two other involved and what happens when they are killed. Who would want more money or is it drug related? Lenny Frost wants and demands Mac to find the killer in less than twelve hours or they and Mac will be killed. Why take hostages and demand on all this. There must be clues to why and what he wants.
Can Mac and David solve these mysteries and crime before it too late? You are in for thriller of a ride and once you get into the book you will not want to put it down. If you are not already a fan of Lauren Carr you will be after reading one of her books. It a never ending ride of Gnarly.
Lauren Carr is one talented writer. She brings you along to find out who the killer is. One thing I love about her mysteries is that you never know who the murderer is? I have read a few of her books already and reviewed a few of them. You are welcome to read my reviews that are part of this audio book palooza. My reviews are Cancelled Vows, A Fine Year for Murder, Killer in the Band, The Murders at Astaire Castle, Candidate for Murder, 3 Days to Forever, Kill and Run, Old Love Die Hard.

graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated A Cast of Killers in Books
Feb 15, 2019
A CAST OF KILLERS is a compelling look back into the 1922 unsolved murder of William Desmond Taylor. The author tells the story through the eyes of director King Vidor, using his actual research of the murder during the years sixty-six and sixty-seven.
Once I picked this up, I could not put it back down, or rather, I didn't want to put it down for a second. Sydney D. Kirkpatrick knows how to grab ahold of a reader and keep them locked into the book until the very end. To make sure nothing spoiled the book for me, I didn't look anything up online (as I'm apt to do) until after I had read the last sentence. This proved to be for the best. Unfortunately, this is not the definitive answer to an unsolved crime, but just Vidor's (and I assume the author's) theory in a case that will likely never be truly solved. Also, the newsletter called Taylorology, which specializes in the murder, found 175 errors and contradictions in the 1986 edition of the book (the one I read). According to their website, most of those errors were corrected in the Twentieth Anniversary Edition.
Still, I found the book to be absolutely riveting and was a good starting place to learn the basics of a crime I had never heard of before. A CAST OF KILLERS is written like a novel, therefore it's a fast read and very entertaining. I take the theory used in it with a grain of salt, but all-in-all, it was a worthwhile read.

Billie Wichkan (118 KP) rated Don't Even Breathe in Books
May 22, 2019
From the bestselling author of Crash comes a riveting thriller rife with murder, misdirection, and ghosts from the past.
Florida homicide detective Maggie Novak has seen hundreds of brutal murder cases, but when she is called out to investigate the charred remains of a young woman, in what appears to be a Halloween prank gone wrong, she is confronted with a twenty-year-old secret. The body is formally identified as that of school counselor Dana Cullen, but a distinguishing mark makes Maggie look again. She believes it is the body of her school friend Rita, who perished in a fire twenty years ago.
Maggies hunt for the truth behind the murder takes her back to a cruel high school trick shes desperate to forget. And when another body turns up, Maggie realizes she too may be the target of a sinister plot creeping toward its final act.
Maggie needs emotional distance to do her job, but shes so close to this case that she cant even breathe. Will Maggie be able to uncover the truth of who wanted Rita dead? Or will her past mistakes catch up with her first?
Don't Even Breathe is a great thriller with lots of twists.
You are thrown straight into action from the beginning.
Lots of suspense and twists that keep you gripped until those final pages.
Love the new characters and can't wait to see how they develop and evolve.
Looking forward to more of this series.
Recommend reading.
I would like to thank the author, Amazon Publishing UK and Netgalley for the ARC.
