Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2615 KP) rated Tales from the Hood in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The Grimm family is on the edge of finally freeing Sabrina and Daphne's parents from the sleeping spell they are under. Meanwhile, their friend the Big Bad Wolf is being tried for his crimes. This entire series is lots of fun, and it provides some nice twists to the familiar fairy tale characters. Aimed at kids, any adult will enjoy it.

This was a nice coming of age story set in post WWII America. It dealt with gender stereotypes but in a very positive manner. I would say I find it hard to believe that there was no homophobia at the time period( I know there was) but the author chose to focus on the girls. I also think pre 1960's being gay wasn't shamed or hated as much. It was really quick read with agood messege about being true to yourself.
I listened to the audiobook as I was driving to visit my friends. I actually really enjoyed this book. Lauren Oliver is great at creating a very vivid world and a creepy vibe.
The characters were not as well developed as some of her other books, but I still found them interesting.
The plot itself went along at a nice pace. It was quick but not so fast that you don't know what is happening.
Overall, it is a great read!

Clint...sorry...Scot Eastwood
Enjoyable action flic
Dont get me wrong, not expecting it to win many awards and it was no where near as good as the first but....
It was fun to watch, nice little twist and it has a good cast to. Amara (spaeny) was by far the best one but we did enjoy counting how many times Scott was trying to copy his dad in the acting department. Overall, an enjoyable film.

We Worship God by Nancy Streza is a beautiful book for preschool and elementary school aged children. The illustrations are wonderful and really add to the message. Â This is a very nice approach to the ABC's. It is rooted in the Bible and in the qualities that Jesus portrays. Each page covers a letter to the alphabet. This story not only teaches the alphabet but also about Jesus.Â

A lot of the Cinematography (3 more)
The dialogue
The Writing
No conflict
Really? Another one?
So.... I loved the first film in this series "The Ultimate Gift". But this film is just bad. It tried to take the first one and copycat it without any of the drama, charisma or fun. This movie was boring. The main character was too nice and anything that he said to be mean felt out of character. The movie felt like a lazy cash grab.

Nice writing style (1 more)
Love bilbo
Massive battle, hardly know anything that happened (1 more)
About 20+ characters I couldn't keep track of
Not my kinda thing
I read due to the hype, probably shouldn't have.
Don't get me wrong I loved the writing style and songs throughout and if course bilbo.
But sooo many characters, then there's this battle but you just get a quick briefing of it. Didn't care for any other characters either. Though I felt sorry for the ponies.

A different zombie film
I just watched this for a second time and I still think it's a pretty good zombie film. Good actors and a guest appearance by Bill Murray.
It's not your typical zombie film, there is a definite lack of zombies and a focus on the personal and relationships during the apocalypse, with humour. It does make a nice change.
My favourite quote I sthat we've gone from "mad cow, mad human, mad zombie"

Poor old Wolvie: he never seems to catch a break.
Early 20th-century (pre WW1) set story about James Hewlitt, the man who would become Wolverine who -as this starts - is living wild in the woods.
When his family of wolves is slaughterd by a bear, however, and when he then kills said bear, this sets in motion a chain of events that sees Wolverine being hunted, eventually captured, put on show and experimented upon ...
Nice art, so-so story.

Good to see the English having a go at a slasher film.....but why does it always have to be so low budget. Tulisa makes a 5min appearance, so not sure why on the cover of the DVD....bit of a marketing ploy there. Interesting take on the idea but the plot just twists in totally random directions at times. It was a nice surprise to see some of it filmed in and around Hammersmith in London where I used to live!
