A nice surprise!
A surprising good Horror film that is definitely different to the normal Slasher. A small group hire an old barn in a remote area to make an adult film. The old couple on the farm find out which lead to a series of events to unfold.
For a low budget indie film it was really good, creepy, sinister, with good gore effects as well. A prequel Film Pearl was made at same time.

Blazing Minds (92 KP) rated Nightmare Alley (2021) in Movies

I quite enjoyed Nightmare Alley, it's not your usual Del Toro movie, so don't be expecting the strange creatures we have cone to know him for. I vaguely remember the 1947 version of the film of the book that it's based on, so I couldn't give a comparison to that or the book, but this version has a great cast and some nice cinematography.
Worth checking out if you want to step away from the Hollywood action blockbusters for a brief moment 😉

breaths live into an old story
beautiful visuals , great direction from Branagh and solid acting from a stellar cast makes this unneeded remake a must see ,slightly different from the original film and book Branagh is no Ustinov but is very good in the roll , with some minor "Politically Correct"changes but they dont take anything away from a great film ......I`m looking forward to the sequel Evil Under the Sun

A nice read with the action starting from the very first page when Marilee crashes her hot air balloon into Coles pool. I love the banter between them and there's quite a spark from the beginning but this book was written in the 80's and there is where it should have stayed. If its going to be re-released it should have had a modern revamp. This book has left me wanting... (bit like Marilee!) I'm sure if you brought it into the 'New Adult' genre.

Enjoyed it.
Not at all what I thought it would be. I'm definitely glad I read the book before watching the film.
It's a very sad story in a way but there are so many nice moments through out the book. I've always been a fan of the letter/ diary format in books. It holds my interest like no other. I don't know what it is about it but it's just very entertaining to me. Reminds me of Where Rainbows End by Cecelia Ahern.

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated The Rift in Books
Jan 12, 2018
[The Rift] by [Walter J. Williams] is exactly the type of book I love to read. I enjoy dystopian that could actually happen such as the Yellowstone Volcano or, in this case, the New Madrid Fault. [Williams] does a great job describing the events that could happen if this fault slipped. Also he does a nice job creating characters both likable and ones you keep hoping will die. The way he brings all the different story lines together is predictable but works. I recommend this book.

A great story
The circus and the characters are brillliant
Absolutely spectacular
It's been a while since I read this book but I remember being in complete awe of it. Every single word has a purpose, it's as if each one is specially selected to realise the novel's potential and it's quite rare to get that.
It's mesmerising and beautiful and it's nice to see magic used with subtlety yet still being important without overshadowing. It's difficult to believe this was a debut novel!

Great style
Addicting gameplay
Boss fights feel overly unfair (1 more)
solo players beware
Killing Floor 2 is a lot of mindless fun.I say mindless, but it really does take some strategy to be successful. That’s what makes it the most fun.If you’re thinking of going into this game solo,it’s going to be an uphill battle that will quickly get old

Rachel (4 KP) rated Annihilation (2018) in Movies

After watching this movie, it made me want to read the books and made me wish I knew more science. It’s nice that most of the cast is female. We need more movies with women who can kick ass. Definitely some odd things in this movie, but they made it worth watching. Didn’t quite live up to the hype though in my opinion. I was expecting a little more than they gave, but I can’t hate on the movie. Hoping someone does the sequels.
