Gisell Middleton (189 KP) rated The Woman in the Blue Cloak in Books

This is a wonderful little novel. If you have never read the Benny Griessel series, which I had not, it provides a nice introduction to the characters and their backgrounds without delving in too deep as to take away from their current case. It did not leave he completely lost as some other books, which are part of a series, but it did make me want to know more about these characters and read the rest of the series. The particular case in this novella is worthy of the best detective novels and provides all the mystery, intrigue and unexpected ending we, as readers, love and desire. I can’t wait to read the rest of the Benny Griessel series!

Ray Milland brings a touch of class to Roger Corman's horror-sci-fi fable. The same old story: brilliant scientist is consumed by his own hubris, experiments on himself and meets a sticky end as a result: after initially being able to look through paper and cloth, his vision develops until he can see through the fabric of the universe itself, beholding something enigmatically terrible.
Not exactly over-burdened with plot, but the script is effective, and Milland brings all his presence to the film (nice supporting performances too). Some striking special effects, especially as the film goes on; not sure the final shot of the film really does the business but the film is very watchable regardless.

I have no words to express how amazing this movie was how it affected me and brought me back to my childhood.
I sat there in the cinema on the edge of my seat smiling and laughing to myself because of how amazing it was.
The one thing I did not expect was that the dad was residing in Pikachu the entire time and he didn't know either. It was nice seeing them spend time together because of how far apart they were in the beginning.
If they ever do a second movie I will be there at the front of the queue ready to buy my ticket.

Sarah (7798 KP) rated Exploding Kittens in Tabletop Games

Bonkers but entertaining
With a name like Exploding Kittens, you expect nothing other than something completely bizarre, and that's really what you get.
It reminds me a lot of Uno in a way, although i had been expecting something more like Top Trumps. It's a very fun yet completely bonkers card game, although the rules are fairly lengthy and it does take a while to get used to. It's not a game that can keep you entertained indefinitely, but once you get used to playing it it's good for a few fun rounds. It's a nice new spin on a card game, and one that feels like it has been made for adults for a change.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2200 KP) rated Murder on Bamboo Lane (An Officer Ellie Rush Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Elllie Rush is a rookie with the LAPD bicycle patrol division. Her desire to become a detective gets an early start when she gets involved in the murder of a classmate. Is she helping the investigation? Will it help or hurt her career?
This new series from Naomi Hirahara is off to a great start. The characters are fully formed already, and that gives a depth to the plot that I really enjoyed. The plot was interesting with some nice misdirection and twists along the way. I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series.

I Really Wanted To Love This
Contains spoilers, click to show
I wanted to love this book. I really, really did. And I loved every minute of it until about the last quarter of the book, which is where I should have stopped and chucked it out a window. Like the directions the games often take, it's a good build up but with an ending that doesn't quite seem genuine. Not sure if I will pick up the others from here or not, but it was nice to meet Maric and Loghain (enough so that I really want to play through the game again to interact with him - you get where he is coming from).
Crystal (148 KP) rated Design Home in Apps

Pretend you're an interior decorator (2 more)
Design with real furniture
Clear graphics
Takes up space (1 more)
Have to earn money to "buy" furniture
I'm addicted
I can't stop playing this game. It's fun because you can choose furniture and decorations to make a nice living space. You win some items based on voting from other players. You can even purchase the real furniture for your own home if you were so inclined. The only disappointing features are that you have to earn the game money to purchase things for your next room so sometimes your design might not be exactly how you'd want. Also it really hogs memory. Otherwise, I really enjoy the creativity and the challenge.
Leah (: (569 KP) rated The Valiant (Spy Girl book 4) in Books

As the story continues you will get drawn deeper in the lives, lies and secrets.
This book contains quite a few flashbacks to Huntley’s childhood, particularly with her mother. It’s very nice to get to see these moments and they progress the story well. However as is the theme with a mystery they do manage to raise more questions than they answer.
I was not prepared for the ending and am still upset months later, still eagerly awaiting the release of The Dauntless in October.
Despite this I would still 100% recommend the book, however if you’ve got this far you are probably hooked like I am and don’t need a recommendation.

Gemma (572 KP) rated Nerilka's Story (Pern: Dragonriders of Pern, #5) in Books

A nice sidestep novel in the world of Pern
I enjoyed this book and really like the fact that Anne McCaffrey often tells the same story but from a different character viewpoint or world. She does this with Nerilka's Story and it really helps to flesh the whole world out as well as giving us a different view on the World's events. I rated this book as ok because, although I enjoyed it, it didn't really continue the story very much and also I couldn't connect with the characters as easily as I can do in a much longer novel.
This was a fun little sidestep book to the continuing Pern novels.

Dean (6926 KP) rated Ghost Machine (2009) in Movies
Sep 21, 2018
A decent low budget indie flick made in Northern Ireland. It has some well known faces like Rachael Taylor (Transformers) and a great location, an old disused prison which genuinely looks creepy. The film has a nice idea, a virtual reality battle simulation used by the army is borrowed for a gaming session. The only problem that as well as mapping the old prison to play in the game it also picks up a ghost with revenge in mind. Considering the budget the effects are ok. It reminded me a bit of Stay alive and more recently Gamer. Overall a good effort on a low budget, the DVD has a 30 minute making of as well!
