"A lot of these are acting. A Woman under the Influence. I just think Gena Rowlands is absolutely incredible, and the sort of vibe of that movie. You can just feel the closeness of the actors and the crew and the people making the film. Again, it’s so incredibly alive and spontaneous, and that sort of weird, intimate, long-lens voyeuristic stuff and their fights, it’s just absolutely incredible. Also, just long takes of allowing actors to be, and to not cut out the white noise of superfluous action that doesn’t necessarily contribute to the plot. The purpose and the heart of the movie is stated over and over again in every tiny action, in every little thing they do, in every smile Peter Falk gives to her or look she gives to him. The messiness of it is just absolutely incredible, and that dinner scene with them all together is just stunning."

"PlayTime is an incredible film. I just love the idea of staging scenes that look familiar but don’t function as the scenes we imagined them to be. And I like that he was fascinated with the mundane. So there’s an airport setting and there are people wearing uniforms and people that look like passengers waiting, and there are scenes occurring, but it’s just the form of a scene that you have seen in some way many times. The way he mixed sounds, where the background noise was louder than the dialogue—having that buried in the background when people spoke is just really brilliant filmmaking. I love the recontextualization. And it’s a masterpiece, with long, huge, choreographed shots of all these entrances and exits and things happening in the background and foreground. So where you’re placing your attention has been subverted so you don’t quite know what you’re looking at or what to look at. And that is incredibly impressive and very inspirational."

A Quiet Place (2018)

This film is amazing.
John Krasinski delivers a truly original piece of film. A story of a family surviving in a world where silence must be maintained, otherwise you get killed by some monsters. I was glad we didn't get a load of pointless explanation about the monsters, our knowledge is limited to what we see in the main characters basement.
As you would expect a film with very little dialogue has to rely on score and cinematography both of which work to amazing effect. Acting from all the family is spot on with the actress that plays Regan a very strong performance as also is Emily Blunt.
A Quiet Place is at it's best when it is just silence, even the viewer is scared to make a noise.
Only negative, maybe the ending isn't that great but that's been very critical.
This is a superb original concept and let's be honest there hasn't been many of them recently
