Kristy H (1252 KP) rated Twilight (Twilight, #1) in Books
Feb 1, 2018
Young adult novel about a teen who moves to a small town in Washington and falls in love with a vampire... I enjoyed it (and this isn't my normal reading fare), but couldn't past the terrible writing, lack of character development, and clunky passages that just made me cringe. If it had been better developed and written, it would have been a total winner, because it still had me spellbound.

The story in this novel managed to capture my attention fairly well (even if I did figure out a good portion of the plot early on), but the writing was rather painful. The author left nothing to the imagination or inference, but spelled every single plot point, emotion, and thought out. I found myself rolling my eyes fairly often... but still curious as to what would happen next.

The Branning Family has found themselves stuck in the suburbs with no modern convinces. The entire world has been hit, and nothing electric works. But even worse, there's a killer in their neighborhood. This Christian novel grabbed me, and I loved it. Unfortunately, the characters were a bit shallow.

Erika (17789 KP) rated A Whole New World in Books

I had high hopes for the book. The summary and cover art tempted me to buy it, so I did. And boy, I could not put this on my 'to sell' pile quick enough. The first part of the novel is nearly straight from Aladdin: now, there's nothing wrong with that, this book was published by Disney. But the whole Jasmine started a revolution? Eye roll to the max.

Another miss for me, maybe I just flat out don't like Gaiman's writing. I thought this novel was boring, and I listened to the audiobook. I know Gaiman narrated the audiobook, but his voice got so whiny, I almost didn't finish it. Sadly, I did, and I'm glad I was just driving listening to it, and not wasting my free time.
Sorry, not sorry about the low rating.

A solid second novel
While not the pop culture thrill ride that was Ready Player One, this book still held my interest. It will appeal to gamers and Sci-Fi fans with its premise of a video game being used to train the general populace as soldiers. You need to be able to speak fluent “geek” (Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, etc.) to catch all the references.

History isn’t everything
Adam Silvera is a really good author if you want a YA gay realistic fiction with a twist.
In this heartbreaking endeavor, the twist is that our main character is addressing the entire novel to his dead first love, using “you” throughout the “Today” sections to speak directly to him. Silvera plays with time and pieces together the mystery of Theo and Griff’s past beautifully.

This isn't a full-length novel...it's a novella...that said:
It felt a bit rushed! I wish there was more back-story! I am thinking that there will be a lot more in the first, full-length book (Witchling) which I will be starting soon :c)
A good introduction & hiya to the character though...I just really want to read their full stories :c)
3/5 stars :c)

One of the best books I have read this year! I read this in less than 24 hours and I haven't done that in a while. This is my first Raibow Rowell novel and definitely will not be the last.
I loved Park so much he was so sweet and melted my heart when he said "I missed you!".
This book just left me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Savage
This is such an original idea. The novel is set in a post apocalypse of sorts, where violent acts create physical monsters that terrorise a divided city. I've never read anything like it before; it was brilliantly written, and left me wanting more from the characters (I'm just starting on the sequel, and can't wait to see what August and Kate are up to now!).
