Merissa (13115 KP) rated Blended Whiskey (Agents Irish and Whiskey #4.5) in Books
Nov 14, 2023
Blended Whiskey is a short in the Agents Irish and Whiskey series, and we catch up with Jamie and Aidan for their wedding. Not only do we get to hear from them, but also from Danny, Mel, Nic, and Cam too. High on the sweetness level, and still as steamy as ever, I loved this addition. There is enough of a teaser regarding Nic and Cam that I am now desperately trying to remain patient until their story comes out. I loved how this was told from different perspectives, and loved every aspect of this short story, including Katie's vows. Aidan and I had our issues but I'm very glad to see he's worked them out. I wish the happy couple every happiness for the future 😉
With no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt my reading flow, I thoroughly recommend this novella, but only AFTER you've read the others. Honestly, they're too good to miss!

Merissa (13115 KP) rated The Tea House in Books
Oct 13, 2021 (Updated Jul 12, 2023)
THE TEA HOUSE is a novella with a perfectly timed release - just in time for spooky season. Because that's what this is - spooky. There is some blood and gore but nothing too bad. Instead, you get that feeling of creepiness, that something is about to happen, you know it, you just don't know when.
Logan and Jaime are the perfect counterfoils for The Tea House and it starts off sweet enough. Be prepared for it to change though, and maybe not in the way you're expecting!
This is a short read that I enjoyed, but I will admit to wanting more. More from Jaime and him accepting certain things. More from Logan and his history, present, and future. And more of them together.
I did enjoy the ending, and it left me with a hopeful (evil) gleam in my eye!
A short one but absolutely recommended by me.

Merissa (13115 KP) rated Bjerner and the Beast (Fairytales of the Myth #3) in Books
Feb 8, 2021 (Updated Aug 7, 2023)
BJERNER AND THE BEAST is the third novella in the Fairytales of the Myth series, which takes fairytales back to the dark days of the Brothers Grimm. The Disney versions, this series is not!
For me, this book took the series back up a notch. I loved the story of Bjerner and Ophidia, even though it broke my heart so many times. Such a bittersweet ending for Bjerner and Ophidia, but tragic what happens after that. I also got to find out what happened to Thalliya!
Miranda Grant certainly knows how to write a story that involves all of your emotions. The pacing is good in this one too, not going too fast to get lost, but with plenty of action keeping your attention.
This one is the best of the series so far, in my opinion. Definitely recommended for all fans of dark fairytales!

Merissa (13115 KP) rated A Lightness in My Soul in Books
Jan 18, 2021 (Updated Aug 7, 2023)
A LIGHTNESS IN MY SOUL is a fictional novella based on a true story, one that happened in Germany many years ago.
Just like the British evacuated their children, so did the Germans, although not everyone was put into homes, but camps instead. This is a heartbreaking and harrowing tale, told in the first person, as Arthur goes to a KLV camp. You stay with him as he begins to question just what is going on, then the Americans arrive, and you stay with him in the aftermath of that.
The conditions Arthur has to face are very well-written, managing to give the reader the horror and hopelessness of the situation without making it gruesome or unnecessarily violent.
For anyone with an interest in the history of WWII, especially if you are interested in the German perspective, then this is definitely one for your bookshelves. A one-sitting, engrossing read highly recommended by me.

Merissa (13115 KP) rated Aeromancist: The Beginning (7 Forbidden Arts #2) in Books
May 20, 2023
The Beginning tells us the start (obviously) of Lann and Katherine's relationship - oops, sorry, I mean a 30-day contract. I'm not sure who Lann is trying to convince when he says it will only be for this amount of time, but I didn't believe him!
The relationship between Kat and Lann was instantly hot, but I loved that Kat was a strong female from the start, and wasn't just going to give in without at least a token resistance! There is plenty of steam within these pages, so be prepared for some heat.
This is only a novella, that just details the 30 days, however, it was absolutely brilliant and I loved every word. It gives a detailed account of the attraction between these two, how they are with each other, pushing boundaries whilst respecting the same.
Can't wait to read the continuation of their story. Highly recommended.

Merissa (13115 KP) rated Aeromancist (7 Forbidden Arts #3) in Books
May 20, 2023
The continuation of Lann and Kat's story starts two weeks after The Beginning ends. I would say that you don't need to have read that novella, but it certainly helped, and I wouldn't have wanted to read this without that, but that's just me.
This review may be short, as I don't give away spoilers. Kat and Lann's relationship isn't over, for a number of reasons. One thing they do have to do though, is make a decision about something. All I can say is what a terrible, horrible decision to have to make. The reactions and behaviour of those involved, and their friends, made it all the more believable.
Old enemies come into play, and the overall story arc moves along with fresh intrigue and twists. Old friends are shown in this book too, and I loved the friendship that comes into play between Kat, Clelia and Maya.
Best in the series so far for me, loved every word. Highly recommended.
