David McK (3369 KP) rated Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines (2003) in Movies

Third entry in The Terminator series, which is no no longer considered to be in canon (nor are Terminator: Salvation or Terminator: Genisys), with Jonathan Mostow taking over the reins from James Cameron and with ol' Arnie - pre becoming The Governator (of California), I believe - reprising his most famous role of a Terminator, a killing machine from the future sent back to fulfill a mission.
And, here, that mission involves Nick Stahles (taking over from Edward Furlong's) now 25 year old John Connor, who is living off the grid and on the road.
There also yet another sleek Terminator sent back, here taking the form of Kristinna Loken's T-X, with her own mission: I must admit, as well, to being rather surprised at that downer of an ending the first time I saw this!

Caledonian Road shows the repercussions of Covid and Brexit (none of it positive), and how those with money think they can get away with whatever they want to.
There are characters that you can really get your teeth in to, many of them rather unpleasant. The main character, a university academic called Campbell Flynn, is struggling with his life. He grew up working class in Glasgow, and has married in to minor aristocracy. He likes to think that he hasn’t lost touch with his origins - but has he?
There’s a lot going on in this novel - too much to write here - and you’re really better off reading it for yourself! It’s a chunk of a book, but it sped by. I loved it.

I have been waiting to read this book for a very long time. It has been on my hold list at the library for about 4 months. I couldn't put it down. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I had to know what was going to happen next. There were a lot of shocking things about this book that makes you want to know who the culprit was. Who has Megan and what have they done with her? There were times where I was a bit confused about the different dates. The book goes from present to past from chapter to chapter and from person to person. I found myself flipping back to see where I was in the story to keep myself straight.
Overall, this is a good book. One that I will recommend over and over. It's a great thriller that you will not want to put down.

Kristin (149 KP) rated Malevolent Gateway (S.P.I.R.I.T., #2) in Books
Dec 7, 2018
People going missing/dying on a stretch of road next to a marsh. Main characters with connections to the supernatural realm. A special military team trained to fight the paranormal. All in happy little Vermont.
Malevolent Gateway is the second in the S.P.I.R.I.T. series. I read the first one for a book club, and I absolutely loved it, so I jumped at the chance to read this one. And I was definitely not disappointed! The main characters are great, the story behind the town and strange happenings (and the happenings themselves) are just plain creepy but awesome, and I love that Zander Smith from the first book found his way into this one. =)
Paranormal/supernatural stories are my favorite, and this one is just bursting at the seams with interesting stuff. Whether it's a woman who can "see dead people," a man who has astral projections, or a military LT who can latch on to them and do what they do, it was all so captivating I couldn't put it down. Really hope she keeps the series going!!
