Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1)

Book Rating
The first book in Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series, this is probably best described as the novel equivalent of a road-movie, starting (as it does) with it's protaganist already on the run, and following her journey.

The book is pretty fast moving, with the reasons for Joanne Baldwin being on the run gradually revealed throughout. Think I will be reading some more of these!

3.75 stars (just to be awkward).

I liked the road-trip aspect and their diversion from Amy's mums plan for them. I liked their gentle roll into something more than friendship. I liked a lot of the people they met on their detour.

What I wasn't so keen on was the ending. I like a definite HEA and I'm sure they'll meet up again but it wasn't a certain thing and that's a big "Hmm..." point for me which is why I've marked it down a quarter star because other than that I enjoyed their story.

I may even have to make a "road-trip" shelf and search out more books.

I was so involved in the road-trip and the little pictures shown throughout the story that I actually stalked their journey using google maps.

"I’ve been touring recently, so I’ve been reading Joe Dunthorne’s The Adulterants. It’s a slim, short novel for taking on the road, and it’s very funny. It’s set in the backdrop of the riots that took place in the UK a few years ago, so it’s light and grotesque at the same time."

"A one-of-a-kind film that will have you on the edge of your seat. The suspense is overwhelming, as men attempt to haul truckloads of nitroglycerin along a hellish South American road. It’s a delight to watch Yves Montand sweat it out."

"His book, Black Coffee Blues, was probably the book that most influenced The Road Beneath My Feet. It was written between the late eighties and early nineties whilst Henry was on the road. The idea of writing an actual autobiography at my age seems quite repulsive to me, but tour diaries is a different thing as it’s not just about you but about the experiences and memories of playing shows around the world, both for you and the fans. Black Coffee Blues is the best book I’ve read like this and was a huge influence, both thematically and structurally."

"I met Will Smith twice. I didn't talk to him for too long but I was trying to let him know that my age group grew up watching him - he was the coolest guy on television and the coolest guy in movies. One of the classic moments on The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air was when his dad was supposed to take him on the road but never showed up and [Smith] started crying to Uncle Phil."

Brilliant and raw this really but Gibson on the map. It's quite stark and grim but that's the point, and it did spawn an even better sequel + Fury Road which as chase movies go is surely one of the greatest ever!

A decent thriller on the road film as a serial killer joins a couple cruising around the US looking at sites infamous with serial killers of the past. It has a strong cast, a little rough around the edges but Pitt will keep your interest until the end. Even if it isn't the greatest plot for a thriller.

Looking for my next bingeworthy series... I’ve binged on TWD, FTWD, Supernatural, Grimm, Fringe, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, Star Trek (all the series), The Frontier, Downton Abbey, all the Marvel
Series, When Calls The Heart, The Red Road... I am interested in well-done series, no subtitles (I binge watch and work), no excessive sexual situations. Ready? And go! ?
