David McK (3425 KP) rated Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) in Movies
Jun 16, 2019 (Updated Apr 24, 2023)
This has nothing to do with it, but is (rather) a continuation of 2014's Godzilla movie that 'kicked off' what I'm going to call the Monster-verse, which now consists of 3 movies: 2014s "Godzilla", 2017s actually-quite-enjoyable "Kong: Skull Island", and now this.
The connecting tissue? The organisation known as Monarch, which has secretly being studying the Titans (as they are called here) ever since the events of that movie (set during the Vietnam War, remember). Kong is mentioned a few times, and appears on a TV screen in the background, but is not a character in this film.
What anybody really wants out of a movie like this, of course, is to see the monsters fighting each other whole destroying all around, and - in that respect, at least, this movie does not disappoint. It's just a pity that the human element doesn't really connect, with some clumsy eco-message exposition, although it does have some nice-looking vignettes when viewed in isolation (King Ghidorah on top of a mountain, with a cross in the foreground, for example).

Hazel (2934 KP) rated Standing Alone (Matt Standing #2) in Books
Jan 9, 2022
Matt "Lastman" Standing is being blackmailed to do a job for "The Pool", a shady organisation; his mission is to hunt down and assassinate Ryan French, an ex-Navy Seal who hires himself out to the highest bidder. This is not going to be an easy mission and Matt finds himself in the depths of the wilderness in western America knee deep in cannabis and up to his neck in trouble within a very short period of time.
With excellent and strong characters, an immersive plot and full of action, this is a great story. I also learnt a heck of a lot about cannabis farming - not that it'll do me much good but it was interesting nonetheless.
I very much look forward to reading more in this series and my thanks must go to Hodder & Stoughton and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.
Sarah (7798 KP) rated My Movies Pro - Movie & TV in Apps
Nov 3, 2017
At the time of purchasing I had over 300 dvds and blurays, and it was so easy to use this app to record them all. For most, I used the barcode scanner which is a really handy tool and impressively picked up all of the right information, even for foreign region discs.
Sadly I've since gotten rid of all my dvds in favour of blurays only, so my collection has decreased significantly but I still find it so useful to be able to catalogue them on here. It even lets you mark titles that you've lent out to others, which is very handy if you're on the forgetful side!
There have been a few glitches over the years, like titles not appearing under the right letter, but this is still a fantastic cataloguing tool and well worth the cost if you have loads of dvds or blurays. The free version only allows 50.
