Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Bad, Bad Bluebloods (Rich Boys of Burberry Prep, #2) in Books
Jan 6, 2021
So, yeah, a lot less of the stuff that kids this age shouldn't really be getting up to. They're now 16 and the bluebloods met their match in Marnye this year. She took them down one by one, hitting them where it hurts the most and I was cheering her on almost every time. I was feeling the same things as her. Did this person need even more pain after the revenge she'd just meted out? It was so complicated at times. Like Marnye, I'm torn by all the guys now, too. They all seem into her but how does she choose? They've all hurt her in one way or another (apart from our Prince) and all feel bad about it.
I am getting hooked on this series and will now have to wait for book 3 and 4 to come out to see what ends up happening with this group of characters. All of their personal lives are complicated in some way so I hope the author gives them all a way to make everything right.

Charlotte (184 KP) rated Hellfire (Beyond Human #1) in Books

At times intense, dark and painful.
My heart goes out to Hadi, our main character. He's a good guy with a special gift that could (and does!) cause him a lot of problems. He's already been through an awful experience and as the story unfolds things brighten up for him only to take a turn for the worse. He tries to help others and is generally really nice.
James 'Falcon' is pretty decent too. He's a doer, cares deeply for his people (family/friends/Gen - his dog) and doesn't let things hold him back. A proper top bloke.
Of the other characters......I'd say that 'Duck' (gotta love code names) is an ass-hat, definitely a bloke that deserves a good crack in the chin, minimum!!
Hellfire isn't for the faint hearted or sensitive folk....It's for an adult audience, with themes of death, drug use and pain. My heart started cracking throughout and the ending made sure I couldn't put it back together.
I'm so happy it's the start of a series!!

Kristina (502 KP) rated Reflected in You (Crossfire, #2) in Books

What a roller coaster! Eva and Gideon continue their story. It’s rocky, literally, from beginning to end. There are so many ups and downs, I began to wonder if Dr. Peterson was available for myself! Throughout it all, I kept arguing with Eva and Gideon, I was even arguing back and forth with myself for a long while. There are so many questions, so many half-truths, and secret upon secret. It’s aggravating, it’s intruiging, it’s heartbreaking, and it’s fascinating to play detective and try to figure out the picture. From the moment I began Bare to You and even through Reflected in You, I found myself at war and choosing sides. I’m not sure if Sylvia planned to have her readers side with Eva and feel suspicious, hurt, ignored, and heartbroken, but I (mostly) sided with Gideon, while still feeling the sharp pain of Eva’s confusion. This book is a whirlwind of emotion! Once again, I’ll complain that Goodreads does not allow a half-star rating and say my true rating for Reflected in You is a 4.5.

The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Christopher: A Tale of Seduction in Books
Oct 7, 2020
Burnett's debut novel introduces us to us a most interesting protagonist - B. K. Troop - a heavy set, less than aesthetic, aging homosexual man who becomes obsessed with the title character. Christopher is young, handsome, naive and painfully straight. Despite the seemingly hopeless situation, B.K. believes that he can still turn the boy into a conquest by taking advantage of his delicate situation. Christopher is a freshly divorced English teacher who has run away from the pain of losing his ex and suffering his overbearing mother has put him through, in order to write his long suppressed novel. Burnett takes us on a bumpy ride as the relationship develops and changes throughout the year 1984. This character-driven story pulls the reader in, as we start out disgusted and then fascinated by the workings of B.K's mind and his less than savory tactics to reach his goal. Burnett uses the flamboyance of his narrator's personality to embellish his prose with quips and high-brow remarks, making it not only an intelligent read, but one that sparkles with wit and humor.

Can I just say: OMFG! I read some of the other reviews and can't believe so many people only gave this 1 or 2 stars. I absolutely loved Lauren's story. I usually immediately hope for the couple to split if there are problems in the beginning, but something made me want Lauren and Cal to work things out. I was enraptured and confused with Cal's moods, which made me desperate to know why he acts the way he does. When he left, I felt Lauren's pain. Few books have made me hurt and cry over a goodbye, but I felt as if Cal had left me, too. I was emotionally invested in each of the characters. By the time I finished, I was amazed, shocked, and determined to immediately find the rest of the series. I'm intrigued by the thought of how Lauren and "Chris" will work things out. He seems like a good guy, but I want Cal back! It will be interesting to see what happens in the future - I have so many guesses!
