as well as the Viking folklore, we got a paranormal element too!
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is book 2 in the Valiant Vikings series. While not strictly necessary, I think it would be beneficial to read book one, Dragon of Denmark, before this one. It will give you a better view of this world, how it works and of the author's writing style.

I enjoyed book one, but for the repetitive descriptions of runes and things. That is why I found this a much more . . .difficult(?) . . .read.

The repeating of what runes are for, what the stones are for, and who did what and when takes up a huge portion of this book. I found myself skimming paragraphs just to get back to the story. I didn't feel I missed anything by doing so, either!

I did like that Elfi and Njord both have the majority voice. I loved that we hear again from the bad guy, and how they go about getting what they want. I do love it when well laid out plans don't come to pass for the bad guy!

What I really liked, though, was as well as the Viking folklore, we got a paranormal element too! Mermaids, werewolves, light and dark elves. I loved the way it was all seamlessly meddled together!

A good read, but one I did struggle with. Some of that was the repetition, and some me (I have *stuff* going on!)

I received an eARC when I signed up to host the book tour. I made no guarantee of a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are unbiased and my own.

This is not a stand alone so Tortured Souls should be read first. This is a fast paced and exciting read full of paranormal elements and it contains just the right amount of romance to captivate you. The story line is well written and the characters are easy to relate to. The entire gang returns in this sequel plus a few new friends. Want to know what happens and what the consequences are for playing around with a ouija board? Then I highly recommend you read this YA book that's full of thrills and chills.

Ghosts and the paranormal have always fascinated me. I keep hoping to discover that such things are real even though I can't help but doubt that they are. It is fascinating then that a major university like Duke at one time had a department focused solely on investigating the validity of these beliefs. The program and its founders have an interesting history, and it makes for a really fascinating read. I won't go into any details about what they do or don't discover, but it will certainly leave one wondering why there hasn't been more serious research into the fields these scientists were looking at since the program's end. Anyone who is even remotely curious about the supernatural should check this book out.

Gulp.

This story left me wanting more. I read through this so quickly and when I reached the end I was shocked that nothing else became of the story.

This was an enjoyable read. The perfect amount of creepiness and some excellent subtle paranormal things going on. I just need more of it! What happened to Barnes, the cow and what what was in that window seat? Why was Ghislain bonkers and living alone in such a large gorgeous house? What happened during the night? Was Cyrus really what he seemed?

So many question, no answers!

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Anthologies are always towards the top of my list of things to read, as you get many different stories at once, boiled down in neat, easy-to-handle packages. PDGA is a wonderful collection, and once I started, I couldn't put it down! There were several stories that I'd love to see extended into or followed up by larger works (if they haven't been already), and there was enough of a diversity that everybody should be able to pick a favorite. I'd recommend this to anyone who loves the paranormal, but may not have the time to sit down with an entire novel. Look forward to another of its kind!
