"The distinguished director of The Passion of Joan of Arc in a moment of strangeness. He said Vampyr was not a horror film. Certainly, in a setting where images and voices fade through a sort of ghostly mist and shadows take on an independent life, where the leading man drifts from one bizarre and unsettling episode to another with a look of incomprehension on his face, an atmosphere of threat and unease is created, but it is the unease of dream, of nightmare, and is ultimately more unsettling than Hollywood’s brash efforts."

"Need I say more? No matter what you or I may think about the film’s lead actor and director, this film has always inspired great emotion for me—love, passion, justice, freedom, unity. Epic fight scenes, great scope and cinematography and beautiful evocative score. It has a great mix of levity mixed in with the true gravity of the situation. There are also so many amazing performances from supporting characters and I most definitely had crushes on both Catherine McCormack and Sophie Marceau for several years after. Freedooommm!"

While Catherine Morland is quite the least intelligent and most naive of all of Austen's protagonists, she starts out slightly annoying but becomes more likable as story unfolds. Filled with the usual romantic intrigues, what makes this different is the inclusion of the passion for horror novels by our hero, which her heart's desire shares with her, and how he uses it to pique her imagination just a touch too much - almost to her detriment. In general, a delightful story, and while not my favorite, it certainly is a lovely read.

Brilliant performance by Redmayne who uncannily resembles a young Hawking.
The two leads shore up a movie that at times seem s a tad predictable which is amazing since Redmayne had never had a lead role prior to this.
The onscreen chemistry in this heartbreaking story is believable and tangible, however I think the film should have touched more on Hawkings love and passion for science, but feels more like a love story which isn't a bad thing.
An engaging story of love that is worth your time.
