The best "jumping off point" for anyone interested (0 more)
Some of the pictures are less exemplary of the artist than one would hope. (0 more)
Great for beginners and fledgling art history buffs.
So this book has artist in alphabetical order, one per page. On each page, there is an example of their work and a small snippet of biography and explanation of the piece.

Simple idea, brilliant entrance to art for someone who doesn't know where to begin.

This helped me study it in a general way as a teen. I got familiar with some of what I liked. It made me comfortable with art in a lot of ways. It expanded my horizons and made me less intimidated by the vastness of all I had to learn.

There is a series of these- The 20th Century Art Book, The Photography Book, and The American Art Book (for some reason they changed the format on this particular one and made it sort of useless)

Awix (3310 KP) rated Phase IV (1974) in Movies

Phase IV (1974)
1974 | Sci-Fi
Strange, chilly SF movie; cerebral even by the standards of the early 70s - rather like 2001: A Space Odyssey with much more insecticide. Quite what's going on remains somewhat obscure, but some kind of cosmic force or phenomenon affects the behaviour of terrestrial ants in a rather alarming fashion; two scientists studying the insects find themselves besieged by the creatures, along with a survivor of one of their attacks.

By no means the B-movie shocker it sounds like; actually quite slow and thoughtful (maybe too much so). Saul Bass was primarily a graphic designer and his interest is clearly in the visuals: there are long sequences of close-up photography showing ants behaving peculiarly, with no dialogue or voice-over. Certainly some striking sequences, and kind of pleasantly mystifying to watch; the decision by the distributors to remove most of Bass' original ending was probably a mistake, robbing the climax of its impact. A curiosity, but a worthwhile one.

Don't leave a guy by himself....
It's a push your luck game, you decide how much you what to gamble based on probabilities. The theme is photography of the wildlife..... I like this idea for a theme, but the theme has very little to do with the mechanics. It's basically abstract. Also when you eliminate down to one player left on an expedition, that person has no reason to not go until they are forced to stop, in our game one person did hat and ate the whole board, he won by almost triple the 2nd place player, (which was me) Part of the game obviously is to prevent this from happening. but also if the game can do that, it's kinda broken.... I feel like this game didn't get play tested enough.... it's a very simple game and there's not much meat to it.... it feels like a game where you teach kids probability. Which if that's the goal it's pretty good.
