I would like to learn piano and perhaps violin/fiddle. My twelve year old niece is currently playing Violin and French Horn and will be starting Trumpet next fall.

Rolling Stone's 166th greatest album of all time
Much more piano-led album from Costello, continuing a move away from the faster, poppier punk to soundtrack-worthy ballads.

Party
Simple but incredibly effective bouncy rock music with a piano or keyboard as the main instrument. Happy and raucous.
The lead single (Party Hard) was a huge hit and rocked like an out of control party BUT the album tracks all sound so similar that they blur into one. It's a shame because it's a hell of a trick making the piano into a rock instrument again.

Brilliant soft brooding jazz album. Flack's soaring vocals laid over tender piano and an excellent backing band make for some wonderful music.

It's Hugh Laurie. Isn't that enough for you? (1 more)
Has that one song from the episode with Alvie when he's in the psych ward (You Don't Know My Mind)
I always remember watching Hugh play the piano in House, but never thought much of it, since it can easily be faked. But no, this man is so incredibly talented - he can act, he can play the piano, sing, and apparently has written a book as well. If you still can't get enough House years later like me, then this album is for you.

"I saw this in the cinema in France and was so blown away by it. I also read the book. The Piano Teacher was super important for Invisible Life as well, because there is a certain cruelty Haneke works with, particularly in this film, that helped me in adapting my story. The book that Invisible Life is based on is very sweet and very light, but I wanted to look at the characters from a different standpoint, and The Piano Teacher helped me think about that in terms of performance."

Unmistakable piano and vocals.
Elton John is one of those artists not seen as cool by many, but I challenge you not to get on with this album. It's a great collection.

"This is the song that inspired me to produce records. When I first heard it, it blew my mind. The drum sound that Phil Spector got, the harmonies, the piano and guitar sounds — I thought it was the greatest record I ever heard."

Rob Simonsen began playing the piano at a young age by picking out melodies he heard in his parents’ record collection, and soon started composing for himself. “I daydreamed a lot when I was young,” he remembers. “I’d sit at the piano, and it was very much about escape: letting my mind wander, exploring.”

Simonsen’s deep habit of daydreaming is at last gratifyingly indulged on his long-awaited solo debut RÊVERIES, announced today for a September 6th release date on Sony Music Masterworks. On latest single Coeur, the acoustic piano takes the spotlight, but Simonson also develops an echoed 16-note pulse, as well as hints of a chamber-pop orchestra, away the distance. The result is a delicious tension between unctuous and stoic: opposing forces that, together, lead us gently towards catharsis. Coeur is the introspective and delicately-balanced debut single from Rob Simonsen, featuring a gorgeous combination of electronic minimalism and classical music composition.

"I'm so excited about being on the same bill as Patti Smith at Field Day! I think it's going to be fucking brilliant as well. I think she's going to be amazing. You can sometimes be disappointed because of all the baggage and preconceptions that an artist can bring from back in the day but I think she'll be a killer. She's going to be all over it and I'm really excited. But yeah, this album was a massive mainstay in our tour bus and throughout our working life and it still is now. I always wanted our band to sound like Patti Smith Group - they've got the piano, they've got the hard and fast edgy guitar, the bass… that's how I wanted Supergrass to sound like. How close did we come to achieving that? Well, there were the odd songs where we had that energy where Danny [Goffey] was on drums and keeping quite simple 4/4 beats and punky beats but without having screaming and distorted guitars all over the place. We had those moments of guitar, bass, piano and drums and we had that energy. I mean, can you imagine Sex Pistols with a piano? And that's what Patti Smith Group did so brilliantly - they had that raw energy. They had that piano but it wasn't used in that flowery way. It's a bit like how Bowie used piano in that rhythmic way. This record is an utter classic. That moment in 'Horses' where it all kicks off, I think we've searched to write our own version of that over the years. It's like, 'Woah! Take me away!'"
